I had the privilege of traveling to the inland region of Portugal known as Alentejo, a region characterized by its plains, diverse traditions, and wines. Important cities for local tourism are located here, such as Évora and its famous Church of Bones. However, I wanted to make my presence felt in a small town called Arraiolos, also known worldwide as the carpet capital. Why? Well, don't miss my post and let's learn about this beautiful culture.🧶🌍
tuve el privilegio de viajar a la zona del interior de Portugal la cual se le fue bautizada como Alentejo, una region caracteristica por sus planicies y sus diferentes tradiciones y vinos, aqui se localizan ciudades importantes para el turismo local como es Evora y su famosa iglesia de los huesos, yo por el contrario quise marcar presencia en una pequena ciudad llamada Arraiolos tambien conocida mundialmente como la capital de los tapetes, y eso por que? bueno no te pierdas mi post y aprendamos sobre esta linda cultura. 🚙⛺

Arraiolos is a somewhat isolated town, so I highly recommend visiting by car, either your own or a rental. In Portugal, you can find some cheap rentals for as little as 20 euros per day. Then you'll have to travel about 100 km from Setúbal to the town, which is located inland. This area is called the "Alentejo region" because it has a very different topography and climate than the rest of the country! Incredibly hot summers and freezing winters! Crazy, right?🚙🌍
Arraiolos es una ciudad mas o menos aislada por eso desde ya te recomiendo la visita en vehiculo particular o alquilado, en portugal consigues algunos baratos hasta en 20 euros por dia, luego tendras que viajar unos 100 km desde Setubal hasta la ciudad que se encuentra en el interior, esta zona es llamada "region alentejana" porque tiene un relieve, clima muy distinto al resto del pais! veranos hiper calidos, inviernos super frios! una locura no?🏰🪡

Your first stop should be the castle. I recommend visiting it first because it's the most isolated spot, and you'll have to climb the hill above the town, as it's built on the highest point in the area. This gave it a great advantage for spotting the enemy from many kilometers away. By the way, I should mention that this is my 54th castle, and we're still adding to my personal challenge! I found it very beautiful and well-preserved despite having survived so many wars and earthquakes.🌍🚙
Tu primera visita tiene que ser hacia el castillo, te recomiendo que sea lo primero en visitar porque es lo que esta mas aislado y deberas subir la colina de la ciudad, ya que el mismo esta construido en el punto mas alto de la zona, esto le conferia una gran ventaja para avistar al enemigo por muchos kilometros, por cierto resalto que es mi castillo numero 54 y continuamos sumando para el reto personal! me parecio muy bonito y bien conservado apesar de tantas guerras y terremoto que tuvo que sobrevivir.⛺🧶🚩
And the story begins in this beautiful castle in the medieval era, specifically in 1305, when King Dinis I of Portugal ordered its construction in the lands of Amarantes. They feared a reconquest by the Moors, who had been expelled between 1100 and 1200. However, at that time they were no longer a threat, but the Spanish were! In fact, in 1385, one of the bloodiest and most important battles on the peninsula would take place (Aljubarrota). I think Dinis somehow predicted the future, haha.⛺🌍
Y la historia comienza en este hermoso castillo en la era medieval, exactamente en 1305 cuando el rey Dinis I de Portugal dio la orgen de construir el castillo en las tierras de Amarantes ya que temian que existiese alguna reconquistas por parte de los moros quienes habian sido expulsos entre los siglos 1100-1200, sin embargo en la epoca ya no eran amenaza pero si los espanoles! en realidad en 1385 se vendria una de las batallas mas sanguinarias e importantes de la peninsula (Aljubarrota), creo que de alguna forma Dinis predijo el futuro jeje🧭🏰

I have something curious to tell you about Arraiolos that I didn't see coming. It was the most difficult city I visited on all my trips; it was the hardest place to get a table for lunch. Can you believe it? Hahaha! I don't know what it is about this city, but at lunchtime on weekends, everything is packed. Plan ahead and make reservations by calling! Hahaha! I ate at a restaurant called República do Petisco.⛺🌄

Churches of Arraiolos🌍🏰/ Iglesias de Arraiolos📍🧭
We're looking at two of the city's most important churches: the Church of Misericórdia and the Church of Our Lady of the Castle. Both have similar styles, were restored, and were built in the 14th century. The larger one is the main church, located in the city center, while the other is on Castle Hill! We could have explored them, but unfortunately, they were closed!🌄⛺

And now the most fun part of the walk or visit to the city is its famous carpet street where we will see a bit of its history and even buy a souvenir to give to a relative, this art has been passed from generation to generation for centuries and today they are known as "the carpets of Arraiolos" the city gave a carpet to Pope Francis on his visit to Portugal.🌍🗺️
Y ahora la parte mas divertida de la caminata o la visita hacia la ciudad y es su famosa calle de los tapetes donde veremos un poco de su historia y hasta comprar algun souvenir para regalarle a algun familiar, esta arte pasa de generacion en generacion por siglos y hoy son conocidos como "los tapetes de arraiolos" la ciudad le dio un tapete al papa francisco en su visita a Portugal.🚩🌄

The streets are very quiet, there's a lot of peace, of course this is in winter. I don't know what tourism is like in the city in summer, however I was amazed by the number of tourists who did visit the castle, it was crazy!🌍📍
Las calles son muy tranquilas, hay mucha paz, claro esto en invierno, no se como sera el turismo en la ciudad en verano, sin embargo me asombro la cantidad de turistas que si visitan el castillo fue una locura! 🗺️🚩
