Konya - Aziziye Mosque and Mevlana

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well and that everything is going smoothly. As for me, I’d say I’m doing generally well.
Just as we were thinking summer had truly arrived, the rain that started falling at night gave us a little surprise. I suppose I should say that this was a good thing. Because it had been extremely hot and stifling for the past ten days.

Yaz mevsimi tam geldi derken gece yağmaya başlayan yağmur bize küçük bir sürpriz yaptı. Tabi bunun olumlu anlamda olduğunu söylemem gerekiyor sanırım. Çünkü on gündür havalar aşırı sıcaktı ve bunaltıyordu.

Another thing I’d like to mention is that it’s been about three months since I last wrote anything on Hive. Even though I’ve checked in from time to time to see what’s been posted, I haven’t been able to write anything myself. There are many reasons for this—illness, a heavy workload, other matters, and so on. I don’t want to bore you by going into too much detail about this.

Bunun dışında söylemek istediğim diğer bir konu ise yaklaşık üç ay sonra Hive’de bir şeyler yazıyorum. Her ne kadar ara ara girip gönderileri kontrol etsem de kendim bir şeyler yazamadım. Bunun birçok sebebi var. Hastalık, iş yoğunluğu, farklı konular vs. Bu konu da çok fazla detaya girip sizleri sıkmak istemiyorum.

In January of this year, my wife and I went on vacation to our hometown. Our first stop was Konya. Since my wife had never been to Konya before, we stayed there for a day, exploring the city and sampling the local cuisine. Although my wife had some preconceived notions before the trip, by the end of it, she had completely changed her mind. :))

Bu yılın ocak ayında eşimle birlikte memlekete tatile gitmiştik. İlk durak noktamız Konya olmuştu. Eşim daha önce Konya’yı gezmediği için orada bir gün kalıp hem şehri gezdik hem de yöresel lezzetleri tattık. Eşim geziden önce her ne kadar ön yargılı olsa da gezinin bitiminde bu düşüncesini kırmış oldu. :)

Although Mevlana is the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of Konya, I wanted to start my tour at the Aziziye Mosque. I can’t remember how many times I’ve visited this mosque, but it always has a profound spiritual impact on me. I can say the same not only about the interior but also about the surrounding area.

Konya denilince ilk olarak akla Mevlana gelse de geziye ilk olarak Aziziye caminden başlamak istedim. Bahsettiğim bu camiye kaç defa gittiğimi hatırlamamakla birlikte her gittiğimde beni manevi olarak etkiler. Sadece iç kısmı değil civar bölgesi için de aynı şeyleri söyleyebilirim.

After leaving the Aziziye Mosque, we walked through Konya’s historic streets and avenues to reach the Mevlana Mausoleum, which my wife had been very curious about.
Since it was winter and still early in the morning, there were few visitors both on the streets and at the mausoleum. As a result, we were able to explore at our leisure and soak in the historic atmosphere. Aside from the slightly chilly weather, everything was nearly perfect.

Aziziye caminden çıktıktan sonra Konya’nın tarihi sokaklarından, caddelerinden yürüyerek eşimin çok merak ettiği Mevlana türbesine ulaştık.
Kış ayı olması ve sabahın erken saatleri olmasından dolayı hem sokaklar hem de türbedeki ziyaretçi sayısı azdı. Dolayısıyla rahat rahat gezip tarihi atmosfere tanıklık ettik. Havanın biraz soğuk olması dışında her şey mükemmele yakındı.

After touring the interior of the mausoleum, we explored the small cells in the courtyard. Each room contained many works of art worth seeing. Just like at the Aziziye Mosque, I’ve visited these places many times before. Every time I came, I felt the same emotions.
This time, of course, was different because I came with my wife. She was absolutely captivated. Seeing her like that made me even happier.

Türbenin iç kısmını gezdikten sonra avlusunda bulunan küçük hücreleri gezdik. Her odanın içinde görülmeye değer birçok eser vardı. Aziziye caminde olduğu gibi buraları daha önce birçok kez ziyaret ettim. Her geldiğimde aynı duyguları yaşadım.
Bu seferki tabiki de farklıydı çünkü eşimle birlikte geldim. Kendisi adeta bayıldı. Onu böyle görünce ben daha da çok mutlu oldum.

After exploring the courtyard area, we slowly made our way toward the exit. As we were leaving, the crowd began to grow. If we’d arrived a little later, I think we would have had a hard time walking through the inner sections. So our timing was perfect.

Avlunun olduğu kısmı da gezdikten sonra yavaştan dış tarafına yöneldik. Bizim çıkışımızla birlikte kalabalık artmaya başladı. Biraz geç gelsek sanırım iç kısımda yürümekte zorlanacaktık. Dolayısıyla zamanlama çok iyiydi.

After exploring the exterior as well, we went into a nearby souvenir shop and did some shopping. Then we sat down at a café with a view of the Mevlana Museum and had a drink.
After leaving there, we went to a place I was visiting for the first time too. I’ll tell you about that in my next post. :))

Dış kısmını da gezdikten sonra yakında bulunan hediyelik ürünler satan dükkana girip alışveriş yaptık. Daha sonra Mevlana müzesi manzaralı bir kafeye oturup bir şeyler içmiştik.
Burdan da çıktıktan sonra benim de ilk defa gittiğim bir yere gittik. Orayı diğer gönderide anlatacağım. :))
