The 10 Most Eventful Days Since My Return to Europe

Dear friends! Today I’m sharing a post about my 10-day nomadic adventure.

If this trip did anything, it was to take me on a nomadic journey like never before. Do you remember seeing me in Genoa, different cities in Israel, others in Spain, and Argentina? Well, at that time I was traveling as a volunteer and spent about a month in each place, with the exception of Argentina—which, well, is my home—and I stayed there for over a year while I figured out what my next step would be.

Later, I’d say I adopted a nomadic lifestyle over the past two years, where the only guide for my movements was the summer or winter seasons—which drive the job market—and that motivated me to keep moving.

However, my latest trip basically involved moving every five days or so by train, plane, bus, and even ferry, through different countries and cities.
Today I’ll take a break from Asia and Oceania and bring you to Europe, because upon arriving on Italian soil, it seems the momentum of movement was still with me, and that momentum led me to change locations three times in ten days.

Los 10 días más movidos tras mi regreso a Europa

Amigos queridos! Hoy les traigo un post en donde comparto una experiencia nómade en 10 días.

Si este viaje hizo algo, fue llevarme a nomadear como nunca antes. ¿Recuerdan haberme visto por Génova, diferentes ciudades de Israel, otras de España, Argentina? Bueno, en aquel momento yo viajaba como voluntaria y pasaba alrededor de un mes en cada lugar, a excepción de Argentina, que bueno, es mi hogar y allí me quedé más de un año mientras analizaba cuál sería el próximo paso.

Después diría que adopté una vida itinerante estos dos últimos años, en donde la aguja de mis movimientos no eran más que las temporadas de verano o invierno, que movilizan el mercado laboral y me he visto motivada por esto para moverme.

Sin embargo, mi último viaje consistió prácticamente en moverme cada menos de 5 días en tren, avión, bus e incluso ferry, por diferentes países y ciudades.

Hoy haré una pausa a Asia y Oceanía, y los traeré hacia Europa, pues al llegar a tierra italiana, parece que el envión del movimiento seguía en mí, y esa inercia me condujo a cambiar de lugar 3 veces en 10 días.

Además, los precios en Europa pasaron a ser por lejos más costosos que en India, donde había pasado más de un mes, por lo que tuve que elegir un lugar estratégico para disfrutar y al mismo tiempo para evitar un fuerte impacto en mi bolsillo.

Arriving in Porta Nuova, Verona

I arrived at the Milan airport after stopping in Thailand and South Korea on my way back from Delhi to Italy, but instead of staying there, I went to Verona, where I spent two days in the city.

When I arrived at my new room, which was like a mini-apartment in a single room, I noticed that my clothes were covered in dirt and had a strong musty smell, even though I’d left them to be washed in India, so I spent an entire day going back and forth to a laundromat to wash and dry my clothes. At the end of the day, I celebrated my arrival in Europe with a delicious, very Italian Aperol.

The next day, since Verona was expensive, I started searching on Booking for a more affordable option. This app works well for me because I have Genius status, and I get various discounts when using the app.

I found a campground that was just a 20-minute bus ride from downtown Verona, so I didn’t hesitate for a second after seeing the pictures: an entire cabin all to myself for the price of any hotel.
It was like a dream—after months in hotel rooms or hostels, having a kitchen, a sofa, a table, a bed, a bathroom, and even a little table in the entryway felt like a fantasy.

Llegada a Porta Nuova, Verona

Llegué al aeropuerto de Milán tras mi paso por Tailandia y Corea del Sur en mi retorno de Delhi a Italia, pero en lugar de quedarme allí, me fui a Verona, en donde me quedé dos días en la ciudad.

Al llegar a mi habitación nueva, que era como un mini apartamento en una habitación, noté que mi ropa tenía muchísima tierra y un fuerte olor a suciedad, a pesar de que la había estado dejando para lavar en India, por lo que pasé un día entero yendo y viniendo a una lavandería para lavar y secar mi ropa. Al final del día, celebré mi llegada a Europa con un delicioso Aperol bien tano.

Al otro día, dado que la ciudad era costosa en Verona, me puse a buscar en Booking alguna opción más económica. A mi me está conviniendo esta aplicación porque tengo nivel Genius, y obtengo varios descuentos al usar la app.

Encontré un camping que estaba a tan sólo 20 minutos en bus del centro de Verona, por lo que no lo dudé ni un segundo tras ver las imágenes: una cabaña entera para mí sola al precio de cualquier hotel.

Era como un sueño, después de meses en habitaciones de hotel o en hostels, tener una cocina, un sofá, una mesa, una cama, un baño y hasta una mesita en la entrada, me parecía hasta una fantasía.

The photos you see were taken by me as soon as I arrived; I was fascinated—the place was even better than I had imagined.

At that cabin, I began to slow down, to reconnect with myself; I started going out for walks and light jogs, and I also made daily trips to a nearby supermarket to buy water and the occasional snack.

That supermarket, on the eve of Easter, reminded me of the supermarkets in Mendoza, Argentina, where there are sections dedicated to the famous Easter eggs. You don’t see that in Spain. I got so excited that I even took a photo to send to my parents.

Las fotos que ven fueron tomadas por mí ni bien llegar, pues estaba fascinada, el lugar era incluso mejor de lo que yo había imaginado.

En esa cabaña empecé a calmar mi ritmo, a encontrarme de nuevo conmigo, empecé a salir a caminar y a trotar un poco, y además se hicieron diarias mis visitas a un supermercado cercano para comprar agua y alguna que otra cosa para comer.

Ese supermercado, en víspera de Pascuas, me hizo acordar a los supermercados de Mendoza, en Argentina, en donde hay sectores dedicados a los famosos huevos de Pascua. En España, esto no se ve. Me emocioné tanto que hasta saqué una foto para mandar a mis padres.

From there, I decided to return to Spain, the country that has been my home for the past two years, since I found it difficult to find work in Italy due to the language barrier. My Italian isn’t fluent, and I preferred not to put myself through that stress this time, since I’d already faced enough uncertainty.

I found a cheap flight from Venice to Valencia, so I traveled from Verona to Venice, spent a night in a tiny town called Tessera, which was very close to the airport, and since the taxi cost €18 per kilometer, I ended up walking there around 3:30 a.m. The man at the hotel told me that all travelers did this and that it was safe.

Indeed, the path from the village to the airport is basically made for walking, so even though it was the middle of the night, I felt very safe.

De allí, decidí regresar a España, país que ha sido mi hogar durante los últimos 2 años, pues en Italia vi complicado acceder a empleos por el tema del idioma. Mi italiano no es profesional y preferí esta vez no someterme a ese estrés, pues ya bastante incertidumbre me había permitido.

Conseguí un vuelo económico desde Venecia a Valencia, así que me fui de Verona a Venecia, pasé una noche en un pueblo diminuto llamado Tessera, que estaba muy cerca del aeropuerto, y como el taxi salía €18 por 1 kilómetro, terminé yendo a pie sobre las 3:30 am. El señor del hotel me dijo que todos los viajeros lo hacían y que era seguro.

Efectivamente, el camino desde el pueblo hasta el aeropuerto está básicamente hecho para ir andando, así que aunque era la madrugada, me sentí muy segura.

I think this is a different kind of post—very dynamic, cramming 10 days into a single post—but I hardly took any photos or anything during those days; I just needed to relax.

It’s taken me about three weeks to recover from both the trip and the two weeks of intense anxiety and stress following the cancellation of my flight. Little by little, I’m starting to find myself again, and for that I thank God—just as I thank Him for giving me both the personal and practical tools to enjoy that trip and to handle things when necessary, and of course, thank God for being here today.

Creo que este es un post diferente, muy dinámico, resumiendo mucho 10 días en una publicación, pero esos días casi no saqué fotos ni nada, simplemente necesitaba relajarme.

Me ha tomado alrededor de tres semanas recuperarme tanto del viaje como de las dos semanas de tanta ansiedad y estrés tras la cancelación de mi vuelo. Poco a poco empiezo a encontrarme conmigo, y por eso doy gracias a Dios, como por haberme dado las herramientas tanto personales como materiales para poder disfrutar de aquel viaje y para resolver cuando fue necesario, y gracias a Dios claro también, por estar hoy acá.
