Calpe, a little oasis of calm on the Costa Blanca, Spain

Hello, dear Hive friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful day! Today I’d like to share with you a little corner of Spain that surprised me with its uniqueness and how little it reminded me of Spain itself when I first arrived.

It does resemble a small area near Marbella, at least from what I know, but this town is such a tiny place and yet so full of life and diversity that it’s hard to believe so much can be concentrated in one spot.

Let me introduce you to Calpe.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive! Espero que estén teniendo un hermoso día! En esta ocasión les acerco una esquina de España que me sorprendió por su particularidad y por lo poco que me hizo acordar a España misma cuando llegué.

Sí que se parece a una partecita cerca de Marbella, al menos de lo que conozco, pero este pueblo se trata de un lugar tan pequeño y al mismo tiempo tan lleno de vida y variedad en su forma, que cuesta creer que tanto, pueda concentrarse en un mismo sitio.

Les presento a Calpe.

This town is located on Spain's Costa Blanca, in Alicante, and serves as a destination for many Northern Europeans, while also attracting a large number of older tourists and serving as a home to many seniors. Upon arriving in town, this might be the last thing to come to mind, as the terrain is constantly undulating and the slopes are very steep.

However, the accessibility features in the town’s public spaces and in most buildings (starting from the entrance of each one) are impeccable, so someone with mobility challenges could easily enjoy this town.

Este pueblo se encuentra en la Costa Blanca española, en Alicante y resulta ser un escaparate para muchos nor europeos al tiempo que es un pueblo que atrae a mucho turismo mayor, y donde muchas personas mayores viven. Al llegar al pueblo, esta posibilidad sería probablemente la última en pasarse por la cabez, ya que es un lugar que tiene constantes altibajos en su terreno, y las pendientes son muy marcadas.

Sin embargo, la adaptación que presenta el pueblo en su vía pública como en la mayoría de los edificios (desde la entrada de cada uno), es impecable, por lo que alguien con dificultad en su movilidad, podría tranquilamente disfrutar de este pueblo.

As I mentioned, Calpe offers a fascinating variety of activities and landscapes. For one thing, it boasts delicious cuisine—both local and international—and among these restaurants is an Argentine spot called “Baires,” which stands out for its flavor. I had a hamburger there after going five months without eating red meat.

Calpe also has supermarkets and clothing stores, which, while not the town’s main attraction, meet the needs of both locals and tourists.

Como les comentaba, Calpe ofrece una variedad curiosa de actividades y paisajes. Por un lado, reúne gastronomía deliciosa tanto local como importada, y entre estos restaurantes, hay uno argentino, “Baires”, que se destaca por su sabor. Allí comí una hamburguesa después de 5 meses de no comer carne roja.

Además en Calpe hay supermercados y locales de ropa, que, aunque no son el atractivo del pueblo, cubren las necesidades de locales y turistas.

On the other hand, the scenery here is absolutely stunning, offering the chance to go for walks along either side of the sea. As for me, I just strolled a bit along the boardwalk—which is really quite beautiful—but I didn’t try to go too far, since I’d just come back from spending several months in Southeast Asia and Australia and was so exhausted that I used those days to rest.

Por otro lado, los paisajes que presenta este lugar, son bellísimos, brindando la posibilidad de hacer caminatas hacia uno u otro lado del mar. En mi caso, solo me limité a andar un poco por el paseo marítimo, que está muy bonito realmente, pero no intenté llegar demasiado lejos, pues venía de mis tantos meses por el sudeste asiático y por Australia y estaba tan agotada, que aproveché aquellos días para descansar.

What I really liked about this town was seeing people of all ages, and letting myself get swept up in the energy of the many athletes working out in Calpe—that boardwalk really is perfect for training.

Me gustó mucho de este pueblo el ver a personas de diferentes edades, y el dejarme contagiar de alguna manera por la energía de los muchos deportistas que ejercitaban en Calpe, pues aquel paseo marítimo, sí que se presta para entrenar.

I recommend visiting this place, as it offers a truly unique experience in Spain and is perfect for those seeking peace and quiet—and, in a way, for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.

Recomiendo conocer este lugar, pues brinda una experiencia muy particular en España y es especial para quienes están buscando calma, y de alguna manera para quienes desean alejarse por un momento del bullicio de la ciudad.
