Visiting the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes (Eng - Esp)
Greetings fellow travelers, I wish you a happy and blessed day. It is a pleasure to share my visit to the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Cumaná, capital of the state of Sucre. The Lourdes grottos are located between the Santa Inés church and the Santa María de la Cabeza castle. The passageway that separates both buildings is the setting where these grottos are located. According to information provided by the guide, they were built to pay homage to Our Lady of Lourdes and to give thanks for the favors and miracles that many of the faithful have received.
In the first photograph, you can see a side of the church, the front of the castle, and the ceramic-covered walkway leading to the grotto, which is made of concrete and mud. At the front, there are several ceramic and marble rectangles with the names of people who have given thanks for the miracles and favors they have received. To the right of the grotto is the entrance to the Santa María de la Cabeza castle. In the next photograph, we see a side of the grotto, the shape of the cavern, the rock at the top, and two images of Lourdes. At the top, there are purple flowers and a small view of the Santa Inés parish house; In the following photograph, we can see the benches located at the entrance of the passageway. The benches are made of granite and surrounded by several bougainvillea plants. In another view, we see the benches and a panoramic view of Sucre Street. In the next photograph, we see the interior of the grotto, again the names of the people who have received miracles, the altar, the floor, which is covered with ceramics, and there are three steps to access it. In the following photograph, we observe the grotto from the front, and at the top, a view of the Santa María de la Cabeza Castle lookout point can be seen.
Saludos amigos viajeros les deseo un feliz y bendecido día, es un placer compartir mi visita a la gruta nuestra señora de Lourdes en Cumaná, capital del estado Sucre las grutas de Lourdes se ubican entre la iglesia Santa Inés y el castillo Santa María de la Cabeza, el pasillo que separa a ambas construcciones es el escenario donde se ubican estas grutas, según información suministrada por el guía fueron construidas para rendir homenaje a nuestra señora de Lourdes y agradecer por los favores y milagros que muchos de los fieles han recibido.
En la primera fotografía se observa un lateral de la iglesia, la parte frontal del castillo y el pasillo cubierto con cerámica que conduce hasta la gruta, la cual está hecha con concreto y barro, posee al frente varios rectángulos de carámica y mármol con nombres de personas que han agradecido por los milagros y favores que han recibido, al lado derecho de la gruta, se ubica la entrada al castillo Santa María de la cabeza, en la siguiente fotografía vemos un lateral de la gruta, se observa la forma de la caverna, la roca en la parte de arriba y dos imágenes de Lourdes, en la parte superior hay flores de color morado y una pequeña vista de la casa parroquial Santa Inés; en la siguiente fotografía apreciamos los bancos ubicados en la entrada del pasillo, los bancos son de granito y alrededor hay varias plantas de Bugambilia, en otra vista vemos los bancos y una panorámica de la calle Sucre, en la siguiente fotografía vemos la parte interior de la gruta nuevamente los nombres de las personas que han recibido milagro, el altar, el piso, que está cubierto con cerámicas y para acceder hay tres escalones, en la siguiente fotografía observamos la gruta de frente y en la parte superior se aprecia una vista del mirador del Castillo Santa María de la cabeza.
The grotto has two sculptures of Lourdes, one at the top and the other on the right side, near the stairs that lead to the Santa Maria de la Cabeza castle. The sculpture at the top is located in a cave with a striking design. The ceiling is black, and on the sides, you can see a kind of rock that complements the grotto. It also has fern plants, palm trees, flowers, among others. As in the previous photographs, we see several names of people giving thanks for miracles.
The sculpture at the bottom rests on a concrete pedestal and has a medal on its arm. Below, the details of the grotto are visible: the modeling of a cavern with different formations. The interior is darker than the exterior, representing the absence of light. When entering a cave, sunlight is only visible at the entrance and in a few other areas. Upon closer inspection of this grotto, I realized that special care was taken with its elements: rocks, vegetation, and the dark color inside. Next, we have another view of plants on the sides and above the cave, the door leading to the castle, the interior where the rocks are visible, and in the following photograph, the altar is covered with a white tablecloth and adorned with a vase.
Here too there are notes of thanks at the bottom and behind the altar, the gray and black colors are observed on the ceiling, some species of shells or brown leaves stand out; the floor of the grotto is covered with beautiful ceramic and a very nice design, it has flowers of various patterns and burgundy frets, there is a concrete pulpit with several vertical lines in the central part, around the cave, specifically on the left side there are several ornamental plants and a fruit plant, guava.
La gruta tiene dos esculturas de Lourdes, una en la parte superior y la otra al lado derecho, cerca de las escaleras que conducen al castillo Santa María de la Cabeza, la escultura de la parte de arriba, está ubicada en una cueva, con un llamativo diseño, el techo es de color negro y a los lados se observan una especie de rocas que complementan la gruta, tiene también plantas de helecho, palmeras, flores, entre otros al igual que en las fotografías anteriores vemos varios nombres de personas agradeciendo por los milagros.
La escultura de la parte inferior descansa en un pedestal de concreto y tiene una medalla en su brazo, a continuación se aprecian los detalles de la gruta, el moldeado de una caverna con diferentes formaciones, el interior tiene un color más oscuro que el de la parte de afuera, representando la ausencia de luz, cuando se ingresa a una cueva, solo en la entrada y en muy pocos espacios es visible la luz solar, al observar en detalle esta gruta, me di cuenta que tuvieron un especial cuidado con los elementos que la integran; rocas, vegetación y el color oscuro en el interior, seguidamente tenemos otra vista de plantas a los lados y arriba de la cueva, la puerta que conduce al castillo, la parte interna donde se aprecian las rocas y en la siguiente fotografía el altar está cubierto con un mantel blanco y adornado con un florero.
Aquí también hay notas de agradecimiento en la parte de abajo y detrás del altar, se observan en el techo los colores gris y negro, resaltan algunas especies de conchas u hojas de color marrón; el piso de la gruta está cubierto con una hermosa cerámica y un diseño muy bonito, tiene flores de varios patrones y grecas de color vinotinto, hay un púlpito de concreto con varias líneas verticales en la parte central, alrededor de la cueva, específicamente al lado izquierdo hay varias plantas ornamentales y una planta frutal, guayaba.
Moving forward, we see the sculpture of Lourdes up close. She wears a white veil and a white mantle; her dress is light blue, and she is kneeling, looking upwards. In her hands, she holds a bouquet of flowers. We can also see the steps leading to the altar, which are tiled in various shades of blue. We also see the cave's lights, the plants, and some of the rocks on the right side. These are beige; one has a pointed shape at the bottom and rests on another rock of the same color with white spots. On the ceiling, we can see the undulating rock formations, a light bulb, another thank-you note, and part of the cave's internal structure.
Next, the sculpture of Lourdes in the upper niche, unlike the one below, wears a white veil. Her dress is white with a blue ribbon from the waist, and in her left hand, she holds a golden rosary. The cave where it is located is covered with plants and flowers. A full view of the altar shows the columns that make it up; they are white. The top part is a concrete rectangle, and in the middle of these columns, at the back, is the pulpit. Some natural purple flowers can also be seen on the floor. In the next photograph, we observe the structure and exterior design of the cave, part of the roof, which, as I mentioned before, is a darker color than the exterior. We have another view of the sculpture of Lourdes and the flowers located above. The railing of the castle's lookout is also visible. In the last photograph, part of the left side of the cave and several notes can be seen.
Although I've visited this place several times, I hadn't observed the grotto in detail. The design is beautiful and similar to caves, and the color combination both inside and out gives it a realistic style. There are also some branches inside that simulate a cavern. I enjoyed visiting this grotto and learning part of its history. As the guide mentioned, this grotto is inspired by the Grotto of Lourdes in Italy.
Avanzando, vemos de cerca la escultura de Lourdes, lleva velo blanco, manto blanco el vestido es de color azul claro y está arrodillada mirando hacia arriba, en las manos lleva un ramo de flores, se aprecian también los escalones para ingresar al altar, estos tienen cerámica de color azul en varios tonos, vemos también los focos de la cueva, las plantas y algunas de las rocas en el lado derecho, estas son de color beige, una tiene forma puntiaguda en la parte de abajo y descansa sobre otra roca del mismo color con manchas blancas, en el techo apreciamos las formaciones onduladas de las rocas, se ve un bombillo, otra nota de agradecimiento y parte de la estructura interna de la cueva.
A continuación la escultura de Lourdes en el nicho superior, aquí a diferencia de la que está en la parte inferior, lleva velo blanco, el vestido es blanco con una cinta azul desde la cintura y en la mano izquierda lleva un rosario dorado, la cueva donde se ubica está cubierta por plantas y flores, en una vista completa del altar se detallan las columnas que lo integran, son de color blanco, la parte superior es un rectángulo de concreto y en el medio de estas columnas, en la parte trasera está el púlpito; se observan también algunas flores naturales de color morado en el suelo, en la siguiente fotografía observamos la estructura y diseño exterior de la cueva, parte del techo, que como lo mencioné anteriormente, es de un color más oscuro que el exterior, tenemos otra vista de la escultura de Lourdes y las flores ubicadas en la parte de arriba, también se observa la baranda del mirador del castillo, en la última fotografía se ve parte del lateral izquierdo de la cueva y varias notas.
Aunque he visitado este lugar varias veces, no había observado en detalle la gruta, el diseño es bonito y similar a las cuevas, además la combinación de colores tanto en el interior como en el exterior le dan un estilo realista, se observan también algunas ramas en la parte interior, que simulan una caverna, me gustó visitar esta gruta y conocer parte de su historia, tal como lo mencionó el guía, esta gruta está inspirada en la Gruta de Lourdes de Italia.
