Hello, fellow travelers and nature lovers. It is a pleasure to greet you and wish you an excellent, blessed weekend with your loved ones. Today, I’m sharing my visit to a beautiful town in Sucre state called Tunapuy—the capital of the Libertador municipality. I had never visited this town before, and I must say I really enjoyed it, thanks to its stunning landscapes and the natural setting that defines it.
After exploring several landmarks—such as the town square, the church, and the town center—I headed toward the rural area near the mountains. I was struck by the abundance of plants in this zone, especially the hibiscus (cayena). As you can see in the photo, the houses are nestled within a natural landscape, set against a backdrop of beautiful, ever-green mountains. The hibiscus plant here features vibrant red flowers with petals that are broader than those I usually see in the city where I live; the plant itself has a rounded shape at the top and, despite being quite small, is covered in lovely blossoms. After admiring it, I took several photos; there were butterflies fluttering all around, though these little friends proved difficult to photograph because they move so quickly.

After exploring that area, I headed toward another plant; its flowers were more intensely colored, and its leaves were a brilliant green. The hibiscus is very common in this part of the state—something I noticed throughout my walk. In fact, there is a stretch of about a kilometer where you can see hibiscus plants lining both sides of the road. During the rainy season, the number of flowers increases, and the leaves take on a lovely, bright green hue; they feature zigzag edges and taper to a lance-like point. The flower generally has five petals and a pistil protruding from the center—emerging from a dark-toned circular opening amidst the bloom's beautiful red color.
Moving along another path, I came across a different plant, and here the differences in the petals were apparent: the first ones were a deeper red, while these were lighter—resembling fuchsia. The pistils differed as well; the first type displayed a red-yellow-red color pattern, whereas the latter were entirely red, with petals that appeared longer. There were also variations in leaf color and size: the first plants had smaller leaves, while the hibiscus in the final photograph had longer ones. Additionally, the last plant was a branching shrub, whereas the earlier ones consisted of a trunk with branches emerging very close to the ground, forming a sort of circle in the plant's crown.
This beautiful flower is well-known in the country; beyond its use in beautifying gardens, it is valued for various properties—including applications in skin and hair care products, as well as in teas and infusions that promote sleep and relaxation. Its scientific name is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis; in addition to its stunning red color, it attracts hummingbirds and butterflies that enjoy its delicious nectar. It was a lovely experience to visit this area of Sucre state and admire the spectacular landscapes and the beautiful, striking hibiscus flowers.
