Morning walk along the banks of the Manzanares River, on Aristiguieta Avenue (Eng - Esp)
The Manzanares River is one of the city's main attractions, flowing through various neighborhoods. Along its course, several bridges have been built, including the Gómez Rubio, Guzmán Blanco, and Mariño bridges, as well as two pedestrian walkways. This waterway borders the land behind Guaiquerí Park, located between Arismendi Avenue and Arístiguieta Avenue. Last week, while running errands in the city's historic center, I took the opportunity to stroll along the banks of the Manzanares River, starting from the Gómez Rubio Bridge. I had never been to this area before; I had driven past it, but I hadn't had the chance to see and walk along the entire riverside promenade on the Aristiguieta Avenue side. I only knew a small section.
I was surprised by how wide the river looks, as it was recently dredged, revealing the walls that maintain the flow. In the first photograph, you can see these walls made of rock and concrete. Next to them, towards Aristeguieta Avenue, is a concrete walkway that stretches from the Gómez Rubio Bridge to the Guzmán Blanco Bridge. Beyond this, there's a small boulevard where the walkway continues, extending to the Mariño Bridge at the entrance to Ayacucho Park and ending at the skateboard park. The route is approximately 2.5 kilometers long and ideal for relaxing, offering beautiful views of the area and plenty of trees that provide shade.
After a stop at the Gómez Rubio Bridge, I got off and took the pedestrian walkway. I came across a beautiful mural located at the front where it meets the avenue. Along the sides, there are several colorful stripes, and then a view of the pedestrian bridge. It's made of iron and stands out because of the colorful stripes. The next image shows its color pattern better. It connects Aristeguieta Avenue with Guaiquerí Park. It only has one entrance, from the park; I don't know if it's open. Beyond the pedestrian bridge, you can see the walkway and the concrete path. The trees along this route form a beautiful grove, perfect for walks and strolls.
Also catching my eye on this walk were the planters being placed on the median of the avenue. They're basket-shaped, green, and made from roof tiles. Some have small plants; I imagine they'll gradually add more to beautify this space.
El río Manzanares es uno de los principales atractivos de la ciudad y en su recorrido atraviesa diferentes sectores, además en su trayecto se han construido varios puentes como el Gómez Rubio, Guzmán Blanco, puente Mariño y dos pasarelas, este curso de agua cubre los terrenos traseros del parque Guaiquerí, ubicado entre la avenida Arismendi y avenida Arístiguieta; la semana pasada mientras realizaba una diligencia por el centro histórico de la ciudad, aproveché para hacer un recorrido por la ribera del río Manzanares, iniciando desde el puente Gómez Rubio, nunca había estado por esta zona, había pasado en auto, pero no había tenido la oportunidad de observar y pasear las caminerías completas del río por el lado de la avenida Aristiguieta, solo conocía un pequeño tramo.
Me sorprendió lo amplio que se ve el río, pues hace poco tiempo se le realizó el dragado y con este trabajo se observan los muros que mantienen el caudal, en la primera fotografía se observan estos muros hechos con roca y concreto, al lado de ellos, hacia la avenida Aristeguieta, una caminería de concreto que se extiende desde el puente Gómez Rubio hasta el puente Guzmán Blanco, luego hay un pequeño bulevar donde continúa la caminería, se prolonga hasta el puente Mariño en la entrada del parque Ayacucho y concluye en la pista de skateboard, el recorrido es de aproximadamente 2, 5 kilómetros e ideal para relajarse, ya que ofrece hermosas vistas del lugar y abundantes árboles que refrescan el área.
Luego de una parada en el puente Gómez Rubio, bajé y tomé el sendero de la caminería, me encontré con un hermoso mural ubicado en la parte frontal que converge con la avenida, en los laterales se observan varias franjas de colores y a continuación una vista de la pasarela, está hechas de hierro y resalta por las franjas coloridas, en la siguiente imagen se aprecia mejor su patrón de colores, ella une a la avenida Aristeguieta con el parque Guaiquerí, solo tiene una entrada, desde el parque, desconozco está en funcionamiento; luego de la pasarela se aprecia la caminería y el sendero de concreto, los árboles ubicados en este trayecto forman un hermoso bosque, perfecto para caminatas y paseos.
También me llamó la atención en esta caminata, los materos que están colocando en la isla de la avenida, tienen forma de cesta, son de color verde y están hechos con tejas, algunos tienen pequeñas plantas, imagino que progresivamente irán colocando otras, para embellecer este espacio.
As I continued along the path, I also saw large trees that I believe, judging by their size, are ceibas. Others are neem trees, a common plant in many areas of this city; in fact, I've seen them in several neighborhoods, and they're easy to recognize by their green fruit, which turns yellow over time. The sky was beautiful at this time of morning, and the trees were reflected in the water. In addition to the trees mentioned, there are new ornamental plants like lilies located next to the rock walkway. Then there's a beautiful view of the river and some offices of Guaiquerí Park.
The presence of cacti in this area is quite new. I hadn't seen cacti near the Manzanares River before. Apparently, they were planted recently and are part of the beautification program currently underway in the city.
A medida que avanzaba en el recorrido, pude ver también grandes árboles creo que por su tamaño corresponden a ceibas, otros son Neem, que es una planta común en muchas zonas de esta ciudad, de hecho la he visto en varios sectores y es fácil de reconocer por su fruto verde, el cual con el tiempo se torna de color amarillo; el cielo se veía muy hermoso a esta hora de la mañana y los árboles reflejados en el agua, además de las plantas mencionadas hay nuevas plantas ornamentales como lirios ubicado al lado de la caminería de rocas, luego tenemos una hermosa vista del río y algunas oficinas del parque Guaiquerí,
La presencia de los cactus en esta zona es realmente nueva, no había visto cactus cerca del río Manzanares, al parecer tiene poco tiempo de sembrada y forman parte del programa de embellecimiento que se está llevando a cabo en la ciudad.
During the walk, I stopped several times to observe these curious trees. Their roots are truly strange, as are their trunks and branches. Some are shaped like faces, others resemble terrifying monsters, and most are leafy, with large branches that cover a wide area along the walkway and the river. Along this stretch, you can also see plants located on the park side, whose branches extend all the way to the river.
The Neem trees are also large and tall, with leafy branches and small leaves. Toward Aristiguieta Avenue, you can see other cactus plants thriving in this area near the river. Further along, there are stairs leading from the sidewalk to the riverside walkway, where various plants adorn the area. It's always pleasant to explore the city's spaces, especially those with natural surroundings and the presence of the Manzanares River.
Durante el recorrido, me detuve en varias ocasiones a observar estos curiosos árboles, sus raíces son realmente extrañas así como los troncos y las ramas, algunos tienen forma de caras, otros parecen monstruos aterradores y en su mayoría son frondosos, las ramas grandes y abarcan un amplio espacio en la caminería y en el río , también se observan en este trayecto las plantas ubicadas del lado del parque, cuyas ramas se extienden hasta el río.
Los árboles de Neem también son grandes y altos, sus ramas frondosas y las hojas pequeñas; hacia la avenida Aristiguieta, se observan otras plantas de cactus que prosperan en esta área cercana al río, seguidamente hay unas escaleras que conducen desde la acera hacia la caminería en la orilla del río y se ven varias plantas que adornan el lugar, siempre es agradable conocer los espacios de la ciudad y más aún con entornos naturales y la presencia del río Manzanares.
