City squares and sculptures; Gualberto Ibarreto Boulevard and bust of Antonio José de Sucre (Eng - Esp)
Continuing my tour of the sculptures and plazas in the city, I'd like to share my visit to the Gualberto Ibarreto Boulevard, located on Carúpano Avenue in the El Peñón sector. If you're heading to the city of Carúpano, on the Paria Peninsula, or decide to visit the tourist town of El Peñón, known for its warm beach, thatched-roof restaurants, and fresh fish, you'll find this beautiful boulevard along the national highway. It features walkways and several sculptures dedicated to this musician, singer, and composer from Sucre state, who has represented the country both nationally and internationally with his infectious musical rhythm. He's a versatile singer who performs various styles such as galerón, polo, bolero, and his signature combination of cuatro, guitar, and mandolin. The boulevard begins at the bus stop known as El Retorno.
This section of the avenue is located in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by mountains that are part of the coastal mountain range. To the right, we could see a large mountain covered in vegetation, several utility poles, and the residential developments of this area: La Villa and Villa Dorada. At this time of day, while walking with my son, the sky was overcast with little sun, which is unusual for the city. So, I took full advantage of the shade to visit the sculptures of this renowned artist. In the photographs, we can see that the clouds covered a large part of the sky, blocking the sun's rays. Because it's located in an open-air space without large trees, the sun is strong in the boulevard area. Therefore, it's best to visit in the early morning or in the late afternoon and evening. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have this shade and cloud cover, which allowed us to explore each space calmly and peacefully, observing the details of each work.
Continuando mi recorrido, por las esculturas y plazas que se encuentran en la ciudad, les comparto mi visita al bulevar Gualberto Ibarreto, el cual se se ubica en la avenida Carúpano, sector El Peñón, si te diriges a la ciudad de Carúpano, la península de Paria,o decides visitar el poblado turístico el Peñón, que destaca por su cálida playa, enramadas y venta de pescado fresco, en la carretera nacional encontrarás este hermoso bulevar, que cuenta con caminerías y varias esculturas alusivas a este músico, cantante y compositor sucrense, que ha representado al país, a nivel nacional e internacional con su contagioso ritmo musical; es un cantante versátil, que interpreta varios ritmos como; galeron, polo, bolero, y su tradicional combinación de cuatro, guitarra y mandolina, el bulevar inicia en la parada conocida como el retorno.
Este tramo de la avenida se ubica en un hermoso entorno natural, rodeado por montañas que forman parte de la cordillera de la costa, en ella observamos hacia el lado derecho, una gran montaña cubierta con vegetación varios postes y las urbanizaciones de este sector; la villa y villa dorada, a esta hora del día mientras hacia el recorrido con mi hijo, el cielo se veía con con varias nubes y poco sol lo cual no es regular en la ciudad, así que aproveché al máximo esta sombra para visitar las esculturas de este destacado artista; en las fotografía podemos observar que las nubes cubren gran parte del cielo y no se reflejan los rayos del sol, al estar ubicado en un espacio al aire libre, donde no hay árboles grandes, el sol en el área del bulevar es fuerte, por ello su visita es recomendable en horas de la mañana, muy temprano, o en horario vespertino y nocturno, pero pudimos coincidir con esta sombra y nubosidades que nos permitieron recorrer cada espacio tranquilamente y con calma, observando los detalles de cada obra.
After crossing the famous return, we see the sculpture of Gualberto Ibarreto with his typical attire; alpargatas (shoes or sandals used especially for dancing joropo and are typical of Venezuelan folk attire), light gray pants, yellow flannel with stripes, the typical straw hat and his respective cuatro, the sculpture is located on a circular base of black and blue and on it is read the date on which the boulevard was inaugurated.
Next to his cultural display are several posts with musical note symbols. The sculpture walkway is star-shaped and surrounded by grass and small ornamental plants. Further along, you'll find the Cuatro, a traditional instrument that accompanies much of Venezuelan music, such as the Joropo in its various styles, and the Gaita, typical of this time of year. The base that supports the instrument is circular and made of concrete, as are the walkways, which lead to the different sculptures located on this boulevard and are closely linked to the music of the aforementioned singer Gualberto Ibarreto, a native of the Benítez municipality in Sucre state.
Next, you can see the sculpture of the upper part of a mandolin, covered with a large hat. Like the other sculptures, it is also made of concrete, and its base consists of two circles, the lower one larger and the upper one smaller. I took several photos of this sculpture to appreciate the details of the walkways, the surrounding area, and the triangular walls that adorn the sides of this boulevard. The benches are shaped like asterisks and are also made of concrete; they are located at the entrance to the circular base of the sculpture. The walkways are yellow, gray, and red, with various details on the ground and lines that create a pattern. We also see the lampposts along the avenue and the bushes located on both sides of Carúpano Avenue. In the following photograph, you can see in detail the sculpture by Gualberto Ibarreto, the lampposts with the musical note figures, and the star shape on the ground.
Luego de cruzar el famoso retorno, vemos la escultura de Gualberto Ibarreto con su típico atuendo; alpargatas (zapatos o sandalias utilizados especialmente para bailar joropo y son propios del atuendo folclórico venezolano), pantalón color gris claro, franela amarilla con rayas, el típico sombrero de cogollo y su respectivo cuatro, la escultura se ubica en una base circular de color negro y azul y en ella se lee la fecha en la cual fue inaugurado el bulevard.
Al lado de su cultura hay varios postes con los símbolos de las notas musicales, la caminería de la escultura tiene forma de estrella y alrededor está cubierta con grama y pequeñas plantas ornamentales, avanzando se encuentra el Cuatro, un tradicional instrumento que acompaña gran parte de las músicas venezolanas, como lo son el joropo en sus variados estilos, la gaita, propia de esta época del año, la base que sirve de soporte el instrumento, es de forma circular y está hecha de concreto, al igual que las caminerías, las cuales conducen a las diferentes esculturas que se ubican en este bulevar y están estrechamente vinculadas con la música del mencionado cantante Gualberto Ibarreto, oriundo del municipio Benítez estado Sucre.
Seguidamente se aprecia la escultura de la parte superior de una mandolina, cubierta con un gran sombrero, al igual que las otras esculturas, también está hecha de concreto y su base son dos círculos, el de abajo más grande y el de arriba más pequeño, tomé varias fotos de esta escultura para apreciar los detalles de la caminería, los alrededores y los muros en forma de triángulo que adornan los laterales de este bulevar, los bancos tienen forma de asterisco y son también de concreto ,están ubicados en la entrada del círculo base de la escultura; las caminerías tienen los colores amarillo, gris y rojo, con varios detalles en el piso y líneas que marcan un patrón, vemos también los postes de la avenida y los arbustos que se ubican a ambos lados de la avenida Carúpano, en la siguiente fotografía se aprecia en detalle la escultura de Gualberto Ibarreto, los postes con las figuras de las notas musicales y la forma de estrella que tiene en el piso.
Next, we see a very emblematic sculpture in the city: that of Antonio José de Sucre, located at the high school of the same name. This educational center was remodeled, and I had the opportunity to visit it. I must say they did a beautiful job, and according to several staff members, the remodeling and repairs were done using the original design, which is over a century old, as a reference. In the central garden, located a few meters from the entrance, you can see the sculpture of the Grand Marshal in gold, a pedestal with information about his life, several Ixora plants, and the walkways that lead to the different areas of the school. Looking at the exhibits more closely, you can see the medals and pins he earned during his distinguished military career.
Something that caught my attention is the back of the sculpture, as it has the shape of a semi-arch and from the shoulders down it is a rectangle with arched sides, which supports the upper part of the sculpture. Part of the marble-covered pedestal can also be seen. That day the sky was clear and the clouds contrast beautifully with the sculpture of Antonio José de Sucre from Cumaná.
The last sculpture of this hero is located to one side of the entrance. It's a small piece resting on a wooden base, flanked by the flags of Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela—countries in which he participated in important battles that significantly contributed to their independence from Spanish rule. Visiting this high school, as well as the Gualberto Ibarreto Boulevard, was a wonderful experience. The sculptures and their details represent the culture of the state and the legacy of these figures native to Sucre state. Mr. Gualberto Ibarreto, even in his advanced age, continues to promote music throughout the eastern region and on various stages across the country. After our visit, we took transportation back home. Each visit to these prominent places in the city is enriching, as we learn new aspects of Cumaná and its distinguished figures.
A continuación observamos una escultura muy emblemática en la ciudad que es la de Antonio José de Sucre, ubicada en el liceo del mismo nombre, este centro educativo fue remodelado y tuve la oportunidad de visitarlo, debo decir que hicieron un hermoso trabajo y según la información de varios trabajadores la remodelación y reparación se hizo tomando como referencia el diseño original que tiene más de un siglo; en el jardín central que se ubica a pocos metros de la entrada, se observa la escultura del Gran Mariscal en color dorado, un pedestal con datos sobre su vida varias plantas de Ixora y los pasillos que conducen a las diferentes áreas del colegio, viendo la cultura más de cerca se observan las medallas y botones que obtuvo durante su destacada carrera militar.
Algo que me llamó la atención, es la parte posterior de la escultura, pues tiene forma de semi arco y desde los hombros hacia abajo es rectángulo con los lados arqueados, que da soporte a la parte superior de la escultura, se observa también parte del pedestal cubierto de mármol, ese día el cielo se veía despejado y las nubes contrastan hermosamente con la escultura del Cumanés Antonio José de Sucre.
La última escultura de este prócer se ubica a un lado de la entrada, es una pieza pequeña y reposa en una base de madera, a ambos lados se ubican la bandera de los países; Ecuador, Bolivia, Perú, Colombia y Venezuela, países en los cuales el prócer participó en importantes batallas que contribuyeron significativamente a la independencia de cada uno de ellos, del dominio español; visitar este liceo al igual que el boulevard Gualberto Ibarreto, fue una linda experiencia, las esculturas y los detalles de cada uno de cada una de ellas representa la cultura del estado y el legado de estos personajes nativos del estado Sucre, el señor Gualberto ibarreto aún continúa con su avanzada edad, difundiendo la música por la región oriental y diferentes escenarios del país; al terminar nuestro recorrido tomamos el transporte y volvimos a casa, cada visita a estos destacados lugares de la ciudad es enriquecedora pues conocemos nuevos aspectos de Cumaná y sus destacado personajes.
