Christmas decorations in Bolívar Square in Cumaná, Sucre state (Eng - Esp)
Hello fellow travelers! It's a pleasure to greet you, wishing you a wonderful day with your loved ones. My son's school holidays are here, and it's the perfect opportunity to visit and explore the city's plazas, which are beautifully decorated with motifs alluding to this time of year, my favorite. Taking advantage of the days off, we organized a trip to the city center to visit Bolívar and Miranda plazas, as well as Ayacucho Park. These three destinations are located very close to each other.
Today, I'm sharing my visit to Bolívar Square in Cumaná, located between Sucre and Bolívar streets, specifically in the city's historic center. It's surrounded by important institutions and tourist attractions, such as the Andrés Eloy Blanco House, the former governor's headquarters, Pichincha Square, the Nuestra Señora del Carmen school, the governor's headquarters, Fundacultura, and others. Every year for this season, the square is decorated with beautiful and colorful figures alluding to Christmas. This year, the square was decorated with spheres, a cute teddy bear in a perfect frame for taking lovely photos, reindeer, a nativity scene, several spheres with ribbons, a tunnel of lights, and a small tree with the yellow, blue, and red colors that represent the Venezuelan tricolor.
Hola, hola amigos viajeros, es un placer saludarles, deseando que tengan un excelente día en unión de sus seres queridos, ya estamos en el período de vacaciones escolares de mi hijo y es una excelente ocasión para visitar y recorrer las plazas de la ciudad, que por cierto están hermosamente decoradas, con motivos alusivos a esta época del año que es mi favorita, aprovechando los días libres, organizamos una salida para el centro de la ciudad, con el objetivo de visitar las plazas Bolívar y Miranda, además el parque Ayacucho, estos tres destinos se ubican muy cerca.
Hoy, les comparto mi visita a la plaza Bolívar de Cumaná, ubicada entre la calle Sucre y Bolívar, específicamente en el casco histórico de la ciudad, donde converge con importantes instituciones y lugares de interés turístico, como la casa Andrés Eloy Blanco, la antigua sede de la gobernación, la plaza Pichincha, el colegio nuestra señora del Carmen, la sede de la gobernación, Fundacultura,entre otros; cada año para esta temporada, la plaza es decorada con hermosas y coloridas figuras alusivas a la Navidad, en este año este la plaza se decoró con esferas, un tierno oso en un marco perfecto para hacer lindas fotos, renos, el nacimiento y varias esferas con cintas, túnel de luces y un arbolito con los colores amarillo azul y rojo que representan el tricolor venezolano.
Compared to Last year, the decorations have some similarities and many variations in color. For example, the tree was white, and this year, as I mentioned, it has the three colors of the national flag. At the entrance (in front of the old café) there used to be a bear, but this year the entrance is a red sphere. The bear is located in front of the governor's office. The tunnel used to have multicolored lights, but now it only has yellow lights. The numbers that read 2026 are also yellow, as are those in the tunnel. In front of Fundacultura, there are several reindeer and a nativity scene among several palm trees. The detail of the palm trees gives it a realistic style.
In front of the Carmelitas school, there are also several sheep, reindeer and a sphere with ribbons; in front of the old headquarters of the governor we see another sphere, white and red with stars on the sides, a door at the front and back; during the day only the Christmas figures are visible and it gives the impression that the lights are all white.
En comparación con el Año pasado, la decoración tiene ciertas similitudes y muchas variaciones en los colorespor ejemplo; el arbolito era de color blanco y este año tiene como lo mencioné, los tres colores del pabellón nacional, en la entrada (frente al café antaño) se ubicaba un oso, pero para este año la entrada es una esfera de color rojo, el oso está ubicado al frente de la gobernación, el túnel tenía luces de varios colores, ahora tiene solo luces amarillas, los números donde se lee 2026 son también de color amarillo al igual que en el tunel, al frente de Fundacultura, se ubican varios renos y el nacimiento, entre varias palmeras, el detalle de las palmeras le dan un estilo realista.
Frente del colegio las Carmelitas, se ubican también varias ovejas, renos y una esfera con cintas, al frente de la antigua sede de la gobernación vemos otra esfera, de color blanco y rojo con estrellas en los lados, puerta en la parte delantera y posterior, en el día solo se observan las figuras navideñas y da la impresión de las luces son todas de color blanco.
But at night the atmosphere changes completely. The colors of the lights are truly beautiful, and starting around 6 p.m., many families come to this space to take pictures and walk around. Children, in particular, enjoy these spaces, taking photos and exploring the plaza. Juncal Boulevard, which coincides with the corner of the Governor's Office, is also decorated with colorful lights. This year's decorations are beautiful, and although only the colors of the lights have changed, they look great. I loved the tricolor tree; it adds more brightness and light to the area. The lights on the bear, a favorite with the children, are now yellow and white with a blue frame (previously it was gold, blue, and white). Personally, I prefer the previous color scheme.
I started the visit as usual, in the company of my son. We arrived at approximately 4 pm and took a walk, seeing the Christmas figures and the tree trunks in the plaza adorned with colorful lights. The idea was to see the Christmas lights at night, so we decided to sit and observe the decorations in detail, waiting for it to get dark to enjoy the spectacle of the Christmas lights. From 6:15 pm onwards, the color of the lights was visible and everything looked beautiful, the perfect place for Christmas photos, sitting on the benches and enjoying a dessert.
Pero en la noche el ambiente cambia totalmente, se aprecian los colores de las luces y a partir de las 6 de la tarde varias familias acuden a este espacio para tomar fotos, caminar, los niños principalmente disfrutan estos espacios haciéndose fotos y recorriendo la plaza, el bulevar Juncal, que coincide con la esquina de la gobernación, también está decorado con coloridas luces, la decoración de este año es hermosa, aunque solo varían los colores de las luces, se ven muy bien, el árbol triciolor me encantó, le da más brillo y luz al área, las luces del oso, el favorito de los niños, ahora son amarillas y blancas, con azul en el marco, (anteriormente tenía los colores dorado, azul y blanco) en lo personal me gusta más el color anterior.
Inicié la visita como siempre, en compañía de mi hijo, llegamos aproximadamente a las 4 de la tarde hicimos un recorrido, viendo las figuras navideñas y los troncos de los árboles de la plaza adornados con coloridas luces, la idea era ver las luces navideñas en horario nocturno, así que decidimos sentarnos a observar con detalle, la decoración esperando que oscureciera, para disfrutar el espectáculo de las luces navideñas, ya a partir de las 6 y 15 de la tarde, el color de las luces es visible y todo luce hermoso, el espacio perfecto para las fotos navideñas, sentarse en los bancos y disfrutar un postre.
The spheres have different designs; one is made up of several white ribbons, which are made of iron and decorated with lights. On one side at the top, there is a hanging loop. The sphere located in front of Fundacultura has a small tree design; the center, like the previous one, also has lights around it. This one is white and red. The other spheres are red and have two doors; one is located at the entrance and the other in front of the old governor's headquarters. The trees have lights of various colors, but the most abundant are yellow and white.
The small garden behind the statue of the Liberator boasts a wide variety of lights on the tree trunks, as does the large tree in front of the Andrés Eloy Blanco house. At night, the plaza is bustling, with many people coming to admire the beautiful Christmas lights that decorate it. The sheep and reindeer, also made of iron and covered with white lights, are located mainly in front of Fundacultura and the Las Carmelitas school. A few meters further on is the large tree, which is my favorite because of its beautiful colors, reminiscent of the Venezuelan flag, The tree is tall with a circular base, and as it rises, it tapers to a point. In the center, it has several rings, which, according to the park ranger, are to give this gigantic Christmas tree solidity and stability. On the posts in the plaza, there are also Christmas lights with white spheres. While we were walking around at night, I took the opportunity to make a short video. Some areas are not visible because there were many people taking photos and walking around. I tried my best to focus on most of the decorations that were standing alone, to capture them in the video.
After recording the short video, I took several photos of my son for Christmas memories in 2025. The station where we had to wait the longest was at the bear; there were many children waiting their turn to have their pictures taken in this cute frame decorated with a cute bear on the upper side. The red spheres were also quite crowded, as was the tunnel. After finishing our photo session, we headed to the bus stop to take the transport that would take us home. It was a lovely outing that allowed us to explore Bolívar Square and the historic center of the city, with its beautiful Christmas decorations.
Las esferas tienen diferentes diseños, una está formada por varias cintas de color blanco, las cuales están hechas con hierro y decoradas con luces, a uno de los lados en la parte superior, tienen lo que sería el colgadero, la esfera ubicada frente a Fundacultura, tiene un diseño de arbolito, el centro al igual que la anterior, también luces alrededor, esta es de color blanco y rojo, las otras esferas son de color rojo y cuentan con dos puertas, una está ubicada en la entrada y la otra frente a la antigua sede de la gobernación, los árboles tienen luces de varios colores pero las que más que más abundan son las de color amarillo y blanco.
El pequeño jardín que está detrás de la estatua de Libertador, cuenta con una gran variedad de luce en los troncos de los árboles, al igual que el gran árbol ubicado frente a la casa Andrés Eloy Blanco, en horas nocturnas la plaza es concurrida, muchas personas acuden para apreciar las hermosas luces navideñas, que decoran esta plaza; las ovejas y renos están hechos también con hierro y cubiertos con luces blancas, estos se ubica principalmente en la parte frontal de Fundacultura y el colegio las Carmelitas, luego unos metros hacia adelante se encuentra el gran arbolito, que es mi favorito, por los hermosos colores que tiene de la bandera venezolana, el árbol es alto, con la base circular y a medida que emerge se va reduciendo hasta terminar en una punta, en el centro tiene varios aros, que según la información del guarda del parque son para darle solidez y firmeza a este gigantesco árbol navideño, en los postes de la plaza, hay también luces navideñas con esferas, estas son de color blanco; mientras hacíamos el recorrido en la noche, aproveché para hacer un pequeño vídeo, algunas áreas no se ven, ya que habían muchas personas tomando fotos y caminando, traté en lo posible de enfocar la mayoría de los adornos que estaban solos, para plasmarlos en el vídeo.
Luego de grabar el pequeño vídeo, le tomé varias fotos a mi hijo para el recuerdo navideño del año 2025, la estación donde nos tocó esperar por más tiempo fue en el oso, habían muchos niños esperando su turno para hacerse fotografías en este simpático marco decorado con un tierno oso en la parte lateral superior, las esferas rojas también fueron bastante concurridas al igual que el túnel, al terminar nuestra sesión fotográfica nos dirigimos a la parada, para tomar el transporte que nos llevaría a casa, fue una linda salida que nos permitió recorrer la plaza Bolívar y el centro histórico de la ciudad, con sus lindas decoraciones navideñas.
