A tour of Bolívar Street and its notable buildings in the historic center (Eng - Esp)
Hello fellow travelers! It is a pleasure to greet you and wish you a wonderful day. I am happy to share my visit to Bolívar Street—specifically the stretch that runs through the city's historic center. During my walk, I noticed just how long the street is; it begins near the Santa Inés Church and extends to the Caigüire district, passing through various areas such as Bolívar Plaza, Pichincha Plaza, several government offices, the area behind Delfín Marval Stadium, La Chiclana Plaza, and the hospital. From there, it continues to the back of the UDO (Universidad de Oriente) administration building in the aforementioned Caigüire district. I honestly hadn't realized this avenue was so long, and I was surprised to see the areas it covers on the map. My visit focused on the historic district, home to several colonial-era houses that stand out for their designs and vibrant colors, as well as various government institutions with offices along the avenue.
The street begins at Nuestra Señora del Carmen Boulevard; on the corner stands an informational sign bearing the name "Calle Bolívar," which also intersects with the aforementioned boulevard. Across the way, a colorful mural marks the street's boundary. Along the street, various buildings stand out for their colonial style, including an office offering professional development courses, the Ateneo, and a distinctive two-story yellow residence featuring multiple windows and columns, situated next to a blue house. Opposite stands another long house, notable for murals honoring local masters of dance; the dance school—known as Fundadanza—is also located on this street. Finally, there is a view of a residential complex, a hotel, and the Santa Inés church in the background.
Hola amigos viajeros, un placer saludarles deseando que tengan un excelente día, es grato compartir mi visita por la calle Bolívar, en el tramo que abarca el centro histórico de la ciudad, en este recorrido pude observar que esta calle es larga e inicia cerca de la iglesia Santa Inés y se extiende hasta el sector Caigüire pasando por diferente áreas, entre ellas la plaza Bolívar, plaza Pichincha varias oficinas de la gobernación, detrás del estadio Delfín Marval, Plaza la Chiclana y el hospital; desde este punto continúa hasta la parte posterior del rectorado de la UDO, ubicado en el mencionado sector Caigüire, realmente desconocía que esta avenida fuese tan larga y me sorprendí al ver en el mapa las zonas que abarca, mi visita se centró en el caso histórico, donde se localizan varias casas de origen colonial, que destacan por sus diseños y colores vibrantes, también varias instituciones gubernamentales tienen sus oficinas en esta avenida.
Desde el bulevar nuestra señora del Carmen inicia la calle y en la esquina se encuentra un afiche informativo con el nombre de la calle Bolívar, esta también converge con el mencionado bulevar y al otro lado se ubica un colorido mural que delimita la calle, a lo largo se encuentran diferentes construcciones que destacan por su estilo colonial, seguidamente una oficina donde dictan cursos de complemento profesional, el ateneo y una residencia que destaca por su color amarillo, es de dos pisos, tiene varias ventanas, columnas y al lado una casa de color azul, al frente se encuentra una casa larga también que destaca por sus murales en honor a los maestros cultores que han destacado en la danza, la escuela de danza se encuentra también en esta calle y es conocida como Fundadanza, luego tenemos una vista del conjunto residencial, un hotel y la iglesia Santa Inés al fondo.
Next, we have a view of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Boulevard; this is located at the front of a spacious house stretching from Bolívar Street to La Ermita. It is a vibrant yellow, featuring several windows adorned with colonial-style motifs and a small central altar with brown columns, a white upper section, and a coat of arms at the bottom; it also bears a central logo depicting the church where the national hero Antonio José de Sucre was likely baptized.
Following this is a view of the house's entrance and the corner where it meets La Ermita Street, highlighting details such as the altar, window grilles, and multicolored flooring. Next, we see a large wall and a house painted pink and blue with a striking design, followed by a full view of the mural, the boulevard, and the walkway leading toward Sucre Street.
Luego tenemos una vista del bulevar nuestra señora del Carmen este se ubica en la parte frontal de una casa amplia que va desde la la calle Bolívar hasta la Ermita, es de color amarillo intenso, tiene varias ventanas decoradas con motivos coloniales y en el centro un pequeño altar con columnas marrón, la parte de arriba en color blanco y un escudo en la parte inferior, además tiene un logo en el centro que representa la iglesia donde posiblemente fue bautizado el prócer Antonio José de Sucre.
A continuación una una vista de la puerta de la casa y la esquina donde converge con la calle la Ermita, aquí se aprecian los detalles en el altar, las rejas en las ventanas y el piso de varios colores, luego una amplia pared y una casa de color rosado y azul con un diseño muy llamativo, seguidamente una vista completa del mural el bulevar y la caminería hacia la calle Sucre.
Rounding out the tour, we see colorful houses featuring beautiful wooden doors and windows—with decorative woodwork at the base—and characteristic roofs made of wood and tile. Next are two yellow houses featuring typical gardens and windows, with brown star motifs adorning the cornices; I really liked the color combinations—one is yellow and brown, while the other is a deep yellow paired with a reddish hue—as they look great and stand out along the street. We then catch a glimpse of the corner of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Boulevard and a yellow-and-gray house situated next to it; in the background, part of the Santa Inés Church is visible, along with the dividing walls separating the boulevard from the street.
Next comes a wide view of the boulevard, showcasing its colorful paving and several colonial-style houses. We see a large wall followed by more of these houses, which stand out thanks to their triangular tiled roofs and large—usually wooden—doors and windows protected by iron grilles. There is also a view of the dance academy and other houses along the route leading to Plaza Bolívar. Finally, a close-up view of the guesthouse reveals the detailed decoration of the lower cornice, featuring slats and star motifs. Every city in Venezuela has a Bolívar Street or Avenue—as well as a plaza—paying tribute to the Liberator; this particular street is remarkable for the variety of architectural designs, ranging from colonial styles to others found in the historic district and city center.
Finalizando el recorrido, vemos casas coloridas con hermosas puertas y ventanas de madera, que presentan detalles ornamentales en su base y los característicos techos de madera y teja. A continuación, aparecen dos casas amarillas con jardines y ventanas típicos, adornadas con motivos de estrellas en tonos marrones sobre las cornisas; me gustaron mucho las combinaciones de colores, una combina amarillo y marrón, mientras que la otra mezcla un amarillo intenso con tonos rojizos, ya que lucen muy bien y destacan a lo largo de la calle. Finalmente, un primer plano de la casa de huéspedes permite apreciar la detallada decoración de la cornisa inferior, que incluye listones y motivos de estrellas.
