Rembrandt's Engravings - A privileged exhibition 📷 Malaga - Spain

There are exhibitions that when I know that they are in the city awaken an immense joy in me, and not because I know a lot about the life of the painter, but because of the quality, trajectory and because his work is distinguished in the whole world and it is for me a real privilege to be able to attend.

Of course I knew the name and the painting of this great artist when I studied drawing and painting, but I did not do it in an academy where art history is taught in depth, but I learned a little of each artist, especially the style of painting and I learned to admire the ancient painters, classics and as in this case a master of baroque painting.

But Rembrandt was not only an oil painter, he was also a great artist in engravings and although I had seen some of them in books and magazines I had never witnessed the wonder of having a work of this genius in front of me.

Some time ago I saw the posters in the streets of the city announcing this exhibition in one of the most important museums, the Museo Carmen Thyssen, and my heart was filled with joy. I had to go to this exhibition, I had to see her work with my own eyes and be so close to her.

I consider this museum to be one of the best museums for the quality of art it exhibits. Both its permanent and temporary exhibitions are of the highest quality.

Rembrandt is characterised by his baroque style, and is the best painter, in my opinion, of the Netherlands. He painted mainly portraits and landscapes and there is also a category called narrative painting, which tells a story. He was excellent at all of these.

The quality of the faces, expressions, details, gazes, lines of expression on both female and male faces, poses, clothing were noticeable in each of his works. But I also consider, looking at these engravings, that even Rembrandt painted emotions, with the looks in his portraits he said things, it was marvellous.

When I arrived at the exhibition hall I was made to queue because there was a certain capacity to be met, no more than 26 people could enter. The exceptional nature of the artist merited it and I waited patiently. The room was not very big and the prints were displayed side by side, many of them were very small. I thought about the difficulty of their execution.

In addition, all the works were framed and glazed, which made it very difficult to take pictures of them as I had to be very close to see each of them due to their size. I did my best, but I recognise the need to take care of works of this calibre.

Most of the etchings are in etching and drypoint and some of them had some other technique added such as touches of grey wash, burin or other. I took several photographs of many of the works at various angles and then chose the best one.

The number of people who attended during the time I was there was impressive, so I think this exhibition has been wonderful and totally successful.

Not only did I take photographs of the complete work with its poster indicating the name, year, technique and the museum from which it was derived, most of which were on loan from the Lázaro Galdiano museum in Madrid, but I also tried to take as close a shot as possible of each engraving to appreciate the detail. They were all amazing and worth every step I took, every minute I was there.

According to the statement in the room, the exhibition consists of a selection of 35 prints in which one can appreciate the extraordinary work of this Dutch painter. It also speaks of the collaboration of the museum in Madrid which contains and guards the main private collection of the artist in Spain.

Of course there was a bit of history on the walls, where he said that the painter produced around 300 prints between 1620 and 1665, for which his career and reputation in the graphic arts was recognised.

In addition to the subjects I mentioned above that Rembrandt painted, religious subjects were also very present, biblical subjects.

He was a genius and expert when it came to engraving, with an excellent technique, mastering chiaroscuro, light and shadow, as well as the quantity and quality of detail.

It was a spectacular display of art, which I had the great privilege of visiting. It was very emotional for me to be in front of the work of a great artist, with so much creativity and quality and that today after several centuries is still valid and fascinates everyone. Pure quality of art.

Thank you very much to all of you for joining me in this exhibition which I enjoyed with my soul. I send you my best regards, see you soon.

Rembrand van Rijn has made many things i still find the Nachtwacht very impressive i've seen it many times as a kid in Amsterdam, same as the Rembrand house where they also had some of these etchings .
It's impressive to see how he works with light, makes you wonder what would he have done as a photographer .

Congratulations !!

I think he would have been exceptional as a photographer, he was a genius, and I admire those old artists who had such high quality work. I'm glad you were able to see his work live. I was amazed! Thank you!🤗

Hello dear friend @avdesing

How wonderful that you studied and learned techniques from the work of different artists!

It doesn't surprise me that you were happy to see the announcement for this exhibition, since it is truly beautiful, and as you mentioned, of very high quality.

How are you, Amonet?

As you know, I really love art. I hope to study at an art school; I'd love to learn painting and drawing like you.

The collection on display at the Carmen Thyssen Museum is beautiful; I loved everything, especially the prints.

It's incredible how many people attended the event; it was worth the wait to get into the gallery. Everything is truly beautiful.

I hope you're enjoying a lovely afternoon.

Good morning, Avecilla. It is a great privilege to be able to attend exhibitions of this kind, and I know it fills you with happiness. As I began looking at the photographs in your post, I was surprised by the statement that in his time Rembrandt was better known for his engravings than for his paintings. Oh… one always learns something new! Thank you so much for bringing us closer to art and for sharing with such joy.

Son verdaderas joyas estas obras.

You have no idea how excited I was when I walked into the room, all my learning about old painters was right there, it was a huge privilege. Thank you!

We are already looking forward to reading more about your adventures!

Hi @avdesing. This exhibition has been a complete surprise. I've never seen anything like it by Rembrandt. I understand the difficulties of taking photographs because of the reflections, but that's precisely why I appreciate your effort in finding the best angles and distances so we can enjoy these prints.

Regarding the work itself, I can't add anything to what you've already said. It's very expressive, and there's a great attention to detail.

Thank you so much for this tour and for your effort in bringing us the best images.

Have a wonderful afternoon! Big hug!

I would sum up the exhibition as exciting, very exciting since I heard about it. I enjoyed it very much... I didn't say it in the text but all I could think of was... I wish my drawing teacher could see this, she would cry with emotion. Thank you so much!

0E-8 CASHMAP

Well, I think several of us cried with emotion at the exhibition. I didn't mention it before, but limiting the number of visitors was a very good idea on the part of the organizers. Even though you have to wait in line, you enjoy the exhibits much more afterward.

De nuevo: ¡¡MUCHAS GRACIAS!!

I am a huge fan of Rembrandt, I've been to Leiden, where the house where he was born used to stand. There's a very nice statue in the vicinity of the place. Have seen several of his paintings in different galleries in The Netherlands and Paris.

I tell you that the only thing I was thinking at that moment of entering the art exhibition was: I wish my drawing and painting teacher could see this, she would be in tears and I think that's why I was so excited to see such a jewel of the artistic world. I hope that one day I will be able to see her paintings too, live. I'm glad to share this taste for this art with you, thank you!

I just watched a documentary on the life of Rembrandt the other night. The show was about how his life affected his work. He spent a lot of money buying prints to learn different techniques from them. He always changed styles and experimented using novel techniques.
