KM 0 Monument, Reaching the Westernmost Side of Indonesia, Sabang Island📍

The 0 Kilometer Monument is a landmark of Sabang, which is one of the most dominant destinations for tourists visiting Sabang. One of the officers there said that 75% of visitors make this location their main destination when they are on Weh Island.

Good evening, HIVE friends, wherever you are. As usual, I hope you are all healthy and happy so you can carry out your daily activities as usual. I hope you all have a pleasant day.

In this blog, I want to share some images, the main image of which shows the Km 0 monument, which is a famous landmark of the city of Sabang and the monument is also the westernmost point of Indonesia. Therefore, continue to follow my simple blog to see some of the images I took while visiting the monument, as well as some short articles about this monument.

From Balohan Harbor, the journey to Km 0 takes about 45 minutes by motorcycle, the road is lined with dense tropical forest. Along the way, I was treated to towering trees on both sides, and the occasional island breeze brushed past me.

My friends...
Sabang has a wealth of potential, from historical tourism to cultural tourism to culinary delights.
Km 0 is a symbolic geographical landmark located in Sabang, specifically on Weh Island. This monument is also a historical landmark worth visiting and has great potential for the future, given Weh Island's famed marine beauty.

After a journey of about 45 minutes, I was greeted by a blue gate, signaling my entry into the Km 0 monument tourist area. The atmosphere immediately changed, from the initially quiet streets to the bustling asphalt bustling with visitors.

My friends...
At the gate, we were charged an entrance fee of Rp 15,000, or the equivalent of a little less than a dollar.

Next to the blue gate, there is a public facility, a prayer room, that we can use for both resting and praying.

We were then directed to the motorcycle parking area, and after parking our bikes, we headed straight for the KM 0 Monument.

The road to the KM 0 Monument, which is used by pedestrians, was bustling, with small markets lining the road all the way to the KM 0 Monument.

This market is a great place to buy Sabang souvenirs, from T-shirts emblazoned with "I love Sabang" and monument-shaped key chains to snacks, all available at this small market, with prices starting at just $2.

This is the scene at the main point, the Km 0 Monument area.
Below this monument is a red and white sign that reads Kilometer Zero Indonesia. I saw many visitors queuing to take photos in the area, including families, children, friends, and even a few international tourists.

My friends...
Indonesia is one of the largest archipelagic countries in the world. Its outermost islands play a vital role in determining the country's sovereign boundaries. This is why geographical markers along Indonesia's maritime borders are so important, and one of these markers is located here: the Westernmost Kilometer Zero Monument in Indonesia.

However, I discovered something interesting while I was there. One of the tour guides explained that technically, this monument isn't actually the westernmost point of Indonesia, but rather on Rondo Island. However, because the island is uninhabited and more difficult to access, the monument marking Indonesia's westernmost point was built on the northernmost side of Sabang Island, located in Ibouh Village, Sukakarya District. This is the view from the KM 0 Monument.

I personally think this monument has a slightly modern design, light blue, with a spiral staircase to climb to the top, and from the top, you can see the open sea and the maritime border between Indonesia and India.

After seeing the atmosphere in this area, I learned a lesson: this map is the end, but the residents of Sabang are the center. This area is home to a multitude of life and activities, from work and trade to the laughter of visitors, and I was able to see it firsthand when visiting the KM 0 Monument.

And finally, from this KM 0 monument, we can see that it's not just a monument. It's a reminder that Indonesia is vast yet united. From Sabang to Merauke, we are bound by the same imaginary line.
I came as a visitor to this island. I return home with a sense of pride, proud to be part of a country with such beautiful ends.

Finally, I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have taken the time to view and read my blog to the end.
Please leave your comments, support, and input, which means a lot to me so I can make this blog even better in the future.

That's all for now. Greetings everyone, and see you in my next blog.
