I always have so many reasons to return to this city, Yogyakarta! The traditional vibe blends with modernity, yet still feels peaceful. One place that makes me miss Yogyakarta is the Malioboro area.

I live close to Yogyakarta, just over an hour by train. So when I really want to go out and experience the magical vibes in the nearby city center, I choose the Malioboro area.

To get to Malioboro, I just walk from the train station. This time I left home late in the afternoon. I wanted to experience the romantic vibe.
We don't need a special occasion to celebrate. Just celebrate life after a hard day. Just walking around this beautiful city is enough.

I'm taking you to the Malioboro area. The city lights, with their classic style, will draw us into a magical atmosphere.
Malioboro Street is indeed a shopping area, but it also features local art performances at several spots in the area.

Javanese culture is deeply rooted in the area, and we'll see horse-drawn carriages, "delman," everywhere. The horses make the city streets even more charming.

Strangely, even though this area is very crowded, especially on holidays, it doesn't make you dizzy at all. It's like we're in an uncluttered public space. Ah, that's really hard to explain in words. But I hope you get what I mean. 🙂
Usually, I get dizzy in crowds. But the Malioboro area is different. I feel at peace here.
In the Malioboro area, there are several traditional and modern markets that I can find besides the streetside shops.

One of them is called "Teras Malioboro." This place is like a typical market, but with a focus on culinary delights also souvenirs

It's not just one place to eat. Instead, it houses many different types of eateries, so there's plenty of choice.

The place to pray (mushola)
Meanwhile, I didn't come here to eat. I was actually looking for a place to pray. So I took some pictures of the surroundings.

I like to think of walking around this city as romanticizing life. Even if there's nothing special to celebrate, for me, the feeling of gratitude for escaping a tough day is something special to celebrate. And the Malioboro area is the perfect place for that.
Just walking, listening to the sound of horses' hooves, seeing the beautiful lights of the classic lamps at night, and enjoying the affordable local cuisine.

I'll definitely return to this place. Even though it's only a few kilometers of walking, it calms my body, and when I get home, I can sleep soundly! A great stress reliever!

Greetings @anggreklestari, the city views are lovely; I like the streetlamps and the horse-drawn carriages.
Have a wonderful day!
Yeah the city view very beautiful and peaceful
What a beautiful journey through Yogyakarta! I really enjoyed reading your post and seeing the wonderful photos. The warm city lights, traditional horse drawn carriages, and peaceful atmosphere make Malioboro look truly magical. I also loved your idea of celebrating life through a simple evening walk. Thank you for sharing this inspiring travel experience. Wishing you many more happy adventures🤝
I completely agree with this. Even the smallest and simplest wins in life are worth celebrating.
By the way, riding a horse-drawn carriage while touring the place maybe such a wonderful experience. I like the atmosphere of the place, it's so festive and lively.
To be happy and peaceful in this life, none of us need a special day. Sometimes, even a short walk in a place famous for its natural beauty, close to us, is enough to rest both our minds and souls. You have beautifully described the atmosphere of Malioboro in your words. The classic streetlights, horse-drawn carriages, and the blend of traditional architecture with modern life are very impressive.
Happiness has a very personal "concept" (so to speak), @anggreklestari. Therefore, we all need to find it according to our own criteria.
This post made me reflect on how happiness can be "measured".
