Exploring The Charm 0f Semarang's Old Town

Semarang's Old Town was a tourist destination that immediately came to mind upon arriving in Semarang. This is because it's close to the train station. So, I only needed to walk from the train station to Semarang's Old Town.

IMG_E3068.JPG
The closest station to Semarang's Old Town is Semarang Tawang Station. Then, I walked about 500 meters to the Semarang Old Town area.

A short walk later, you'll see a sign for "Spiegel," which also points in the same direction as Semarang's Old Town. "Spiegel" is a restaurant with a classic building also located in Semarang's Old Town.

I had just taken a short walk from Semarang's Tawang Station. I've previously posted about this station on Hive, which you can read about here. It wasn't long before I saw many tourists in the Old Town.

Well, it turns out Semarang is very hot. Luckily, I was wearing a hat. You can bring an umbrella to protect your head from the extreme heat.

The Old Town area is known as Little Netherlands because it is home to buildings with Dutch influences. These buildings have been preserved to this day and have been converted for various purposes.

IMG_3067.JPG
Starting with the iconic "BLUNDUK CHURCH/GEREJA BLUNDUK" which we can see in the Old Town area. Blunduk means convex, as can be seen from the shape of its dome.

This church is designated a cultural heritage site, although it still functions as a place of worship.

"BLUNDUK CHURCH" gives Semarang's Old Town a classic European feel.

I even saw pigeons in front of the church. I felt a European vibe. The cleanliness of the streets also contributes to this pleasant look.

IMG_E3076.JPG
Surrounding the church is "SRI GUNTING PARK," a small park that cools down the hot Semarang Old Town area. In this park, we can sit and relax while enjoying the classic city vibe.

IMG_3079.JPG
Around the Old Town, classic buildings can be seen that have maintained their original appearance to this day. There's "MARBA," which once functioned as a shop selling imported goods. What's interesting about this building is its exposed red brick design.

IMG_3078.JPG
There are two old telephones similar to those found on European streets, so it maintains the OLD TOWN vibe.

IMG_E3074.JPG
The streets in this OLD TOWN are very clean. This is understandable, as this area is close to the center of Semarang's government and is also a tourist center. But another thing to note is that not all tourist attractions in Indonesia are well-maintained, even those managed by the government! This fact amazed me about the cleanliness of this city's streets.

Well, since it was already very hot and my head was starting to feel dizzy, I looked for a place to have lunch around Semarang's OLD TOWN. Several old buildings have been converted into restaurants or cafes without altering their original appearance.

So, I'll share more about Semarang's sightseeing another time. I enjoyed walking around Semarang's clean and classic Old Town!

This is a lovely town, I especially love those lamp posts and how the authorities have kept good care to preserve it. What's the other red structure in the front of the photo? I know you said two telephones but it looks a little too small to be a telephone booth

In my photo, the one in front is a mailbox, while the other was once a telephone box in the past, but it's no longer functional so the the sign above it has been replaced by a charger box.

The other one is in another area, not pictured, but in the same area as Old Town. It was so hot that day, I couldn't walk much further. My bad.
