Night Promenade in Kaş Old Town

(edited)

This photo essay is dedicated to the evening streets of a small resort town on the Mediterranean coast of Türkiye.

When my wife and I first came to Kaş a couple of years ago, we were pleasantly surprised. The town turned out to be unexpectedly cozy, despite the tourists and countless souvenir shops. Sometimes it happens like this: you arrive somewhere and immediately feel it — yes, this is a good place.

On our very first evening, we went out for a walk, even though it was already late. Of course, I took my camera with me. Almost all the photographs you’ll see were taken on the move, handheld. Only in a couple of cases did I manage to place the camera on a table or chair and take a long-exposure shot. 📷

The first people you meet in the center are the dondurma vendors. This is the famous Turkish ice cream that’s rarely handed to you right away — usually, it comes with a whole performance. 🍦

They almost always have plenty of customers.

We walk on and barely notice a black cat crossing our path in the darkness. For us, this is a good sign — one that brings prosperity, love, and safe travels. 🐈‍

Late in the evening, the Old Town becomes very lively. Narrow streets, stone houses with balconies, lots of greenery and flowers. Walking here isn’t just pleasant — it feels atmospheric.

The atmosphere isn’t typically Turkish but rather classically Mediterranean. You can tell Kaş isn’t a mass all-inclusive resort, but a place for those who prefer coziness to hustle.

Walking through Kaş’s streets is easy and enjoyable. Everything is well lit: buildings, signs, shop windows. The shops stay open late, probably until the last customer leaves.

In general, shopping lovers will find Kaş interesting too. Judging by the name of the shop in the photo below, you can mine yourself some jewelry here. ⛏️

There really are many shops: souvenirs, gifts, carpets, clothes, shoes — the list goes on. Everything you’d expect in a popular resort town.

A tobacco and alcohol shop designed in a modern style.

Of course, Kaş is known for more than just its shops. It’s a town with centuries of history, and even here in the heart of the Old Town stands a monument called the King’s Tomb. This isn’t a legend — it’s a real archaeological site, one of the town’s symbols and a popular tourist attraction.

The tomb appears unexpectedly among narrow streets and trees, blending perfectly into its surroundings. Carved from a single massive stone block, it looks impressive. It dates back to the 4th century BCE, to the time when Kaş was still called Antiphellus.

You can approach it freely, and there’s an information plaque on the nearby wall.

We move on, and ahead of us are cafés and restaurants — almost as many as souvenir shops. There’s something for every taste, budget, cuisine, and mood. The Old Town has many traditional Turkish and European restaurants, while closer to the waterfront you’ll find seafood places and even sushi bars. After all, Kaş is also a fishing town. 🐟

We especially remember a small fish restaurant with tables set right inside a boat (photo above) and a café called Noel Baba. It’s always nice to spend time with Father Christmas. 🎅

During the week we spent in Kaş, we got to visit several restaurants. Overall, everything was quite good but honestly, there were some nuances. I’ll probably explore this topic in more detail in a future post about the town.

After walking for a long time, we looked into almost every alley of the Old Town. In some places, there was hardly anyone left; perhaps some venues were already closing, as midnight approached.

In any case, the fresh sea air and pleasant street atmosphere left us with wonderful memories of that night promenade: a beautiful walk in beautiful weather through a beautiful town. I think Kaş greeted us then with all its charm. ✨

Thank you very much for reading!

That is a nice street full of food stalls, curious about the taste of their ice cream that must be good because they have many costumers
