Wednesday walk to Troyan Monastery
My Wednesday walk today takes me to the Troyan Monastery, situated in the Balkan Mountain on the banks of the Cherni Osam River.
I was in the village of Oreshak with some friends, and we decided to visit the local monastery.
It is the third-largest monastery in Bulgaria and the largest one in the Balkan Mountain.
Evidence indicates that the monastery was built in 1600.
The monastery served as an important center for Bulgarian education and spirituality; the first monastic school was established here.
The tower at the Troyan Monastery was also a very interesting architectural monument. It has five stories and was built in 1865 by Master Ivan from the village of Mlechevo.
There is an opportunity to stay overnight in the monastery, and outside there are many shops where you can buy various souvenirs.
