[ENG/ESP] My Wednesday between hotels, roads, and surprises
I wish you all a happy day, dear friends of this wonderful #wednesdaywalk community. Every week, it’s a real pleasure for me to take part in this lovely initiative by our dear friend @tattoodjay, who not only invites me to share my walks with you, but also lets me enjoy those of so many people around the world. It’s like traveling without leaving home, as we share our everyday stories with one another.
Today I want to tell you about this Wednesday’s journey, which began with a deceptive calm and ended up being quite a hectic day, though very productive. In the morning we got up early, as usual, to carry out our work routines at the Parque Costa Sur shopping center. The weather remains somewhat capricious; at times the sun shines brightly, and suddenly it clouds over as if it were about to rain, though it almost never actually does. Even so, nothing stops me from enjoying the urban and natural landscapes I encounter along the way. Every day has its own nuance, its own light, and all it takes is a moment to stop and appreciate it.

Cada semana es un verdadero placer para mí participar en esta bella iniciativa de nuestro querido amigo @tattoodjay, que no solo me invita a mostrarles mis recorridos, sino que también me permite disfrutar los de tantas personas alrededor del mundo. Es como viajar sin movernos del lugar, acompañándonos unos a otros con nuestras historias cotidianas.
Hoy quiero contarles el recorrido de este miércoles, que comenzó con una calma engañosa y terminó siendo un día bastante agitado, aunque muy productivo. En la mañana nos levantamos temprano, como de costumbre, para realizar nuestras rutinas de trabajo en el centro comercial Parque Costa Sur. El clima sigue un tanto caprichoso; por momentos el sol brilla con fuerza y, de repente, se nubla como si quisiera llover, aunque casi nunca termina de hacerlo. Aun así, nada me impide disfrutar los paisajes urbanos y naturales que encuentro en el camino. Cada día tiene su propio matiz, su propia luz, y solo hace falta detenerse un instante para apreciarlo.
When we arrived at the shopping center, we carried out our standard chlorination and disinfection routine. Since we’ve had to go there frequently due to the problem with the water from the tanker trucks, I must admit I was surprised by the results; all the readings were within normal limits. That small victory brought us immense joy, because it means our consistent efforts are paying off.
Al llegar al centro comercial realizamos nuestra rutina de cloración y desinfección. Como hemos tenido que ir con frecuencia por el problema del agua proveniente de los camiones cisterna, confieso que me sorprendieron los resultados; todos los parámetros estaban dentro de lo normal. Esa pequeña victoria nos dio una alegría enorme, porque significa que el trabajo constante está dando frutos.
That day, in theory, was the only thing we had left to do. My husband and I thought it would be a relaxing Wednesday, so when we left the hotel, we headed to the Rattan Mall. We really like the way they prepare the food there; they always have great deals, and you can enjoy everything from a shredded beef empanada to a hearty and delicious pabellón criollo.
Ese día, en teoría, era la única tarea que teníamos pendiente. Mi esposo y yo pensábamos que sería un miércoles relajado, así que al salir del hotel nos dirigimos al centro comercial Rattan. Allí nos gusta mucho cómo preparan los alimentos; siempre tienen buenas ofertas y puedes disfrutar desde una empanada de carne mechada hasta un pabellón criollo bien servido y delicioso.
While we were waiting for our lunch, we noticed that they had already put up decorations in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup. Everything looked colorful and festive.
Mientras esperábamos nuestro almuerzo, observamos que ya habían colocado una decoración alusiva al próximo mundial de fútbol. Todo se veía colorido y festivo.
Just as our food was being served, the phone started ringing insistently. We decided to answer it to avoid further interruptions, and it turned out to be a call from the Ecoland Hotel. They asked us to come as soon as possible because there was a problem at the desalination plant. So we finished lunch and headed to the hotel, taking the Portachuelo route, which is the quickest way to get there.
Justo cuando nos trajeron la comida, el teléfono comenzó a sonar insistentemente. Decidimos contestar para evitar interrupciones posteriores y resultó ser una llamada del hotel Ecoland. Nos pedían que fuéramos lo antes posible porque estaban presentando un problema en la planta desalinizadora. Así que terminamos de almorzar y salimos rumbo al hotel, tomando la vía de Portachuelo, que es la más rápida para llegar.
When we arrived, the managers and engineers were waiting for us, visibly concerned about the condition of the filters. After a thorough inspection, we decided to shut down two of the three filter banks to prevent further damage. It was a tense but necessary moment. This week promises to be intense; we’ll have to visit the facility several times until the problem is completely resolved.
Al llegar, nos esperaban los gerentes e ingenieros, visiblemente preocupados por el estado de los filtros. Después de una revisión minuciosa, tomamos la decisión de detener dos de las tres baterías de filtros para evitar un daño mayor. Fue un momento tenso, pero necesario. Esta semana promete ser intensa; tendremos que visitar varias veces la instalación hasta solucionar por completo el problema.
When we were done, we headed back home. We passed by the lagoon and the beach, which looked absolutely beautiful. I always hope that these rains will raise the water level a little, because a large part of it remains dry due to the severe drought that has plagued the island for so many months.
Al terminar, emprendimos el camino de regreso a casa. Pasamos por la laguna, La playa, que se veían realmente hermosas. Siempre espero que con estas lluvias aumente un poco el nivel del agua, porque una gran parte de su extensión sigue seca debido a la fuerte sequía que ha afectado a la isla durante tantos meses.
So, surrounded by beautiful scenery and the satisfaction of a job well done, we returned home to rest and get ready for what the coming days will bring. I’ll keep you posted, dear friends, and tell you a little more about our day-to-day life this week.
