Varanasi also known as Kashi or Banaras is universally recognized as one of the world's oldest continually inhabited cities. It is one of the most popular tourist spot around the world. As ypu step inside the city, the glimpses of its old inhabitants is soon visible. Varanasi has retained its old buildings and structures.

While I was strolling the narrow lanes in Varanasi of my own, I noticed many old building that still stands tall in middle of the city. It was during my walk towards manikarnika ghats, that many old temples and building were visible. It showcase the ancient roots that were preserved through generations of families maintaining ancestral homes, strict traditional building patterns, and a spiritual connection to the riverfront. The old city’s layout defined by a maze of narrow, interconnected lanes was established centuries ago to cope with the climate and spatial limits. These narrow lanes contains houses as well as old temples that highlight some ancient artworks. The walking route to Manikarnika Ghat is an intense, sensory experience.

You will walk through the congested, winding stone paths of old Varanasi, packed closely with high, weathered brick walls, traditional balconies, and hanging wires. According to ancient scriptures, Lord Shiva chose Varanasi as his earthly home. Because the city was already believed to be a seat of supreme light and energy. The ancient name Kashi derived from Sanskrit word 'kash*' literally means "to shine". There were countless temples erected over the centuries as a tribute to its divine atmosphere. The temples are seamlessly woven into the daily rhythm of life. I found one enroute to Manikarnika, but unable to figure out its entrance gate. I took few pictures from outside and they were looking amazing.

Just past the main cremation area in the Manikarnika ghat, you will clearly spot the Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple. Known as Kashi Karvat, it leans dramatically to one side and its base remains submerged for much of the year.

Walking through the narrow lanes of Varanasi feels like stepping into a living, breathing time capsule. It was incredible walk that introduce us to age old craftsmanship and old structure that still stands strong.
In good faith - Peace!!
