Wednesday Walk - Horse Farm in Pegasing Area

(edited)

ENGLISH

Hello Hive friends, I'm delighted to be back to share this week's Wednesday Walk post with the community. For this week's Wednesday Walk post, I'll be sharing about my trip to a region with a horse farm.

In the Takengon region, there's an annual tradition: traditional horse racing. Almost every region in Takengon has a horse farm, and each region has its own favorite horse that they rely on for traditional horse racing.

When I went to the Pegasing area, I encountered several horses walking along the road. The horses here appear to have been let loose; this area has a large number of horses, similar to a cattle farm.

I believe the horses in this area are raised similarly to the cattle farms I encountered in coastal areas of Aceh. In coastal areas, cattle are easily found in large numbers and are free to forage.

Meanwhile, I often find horses in the Gayo Mountains region in large numbers, roaming freely in the grassy areas. Horses in this region can easily be found on the roads, some loose, some herded, and tied up.

The Pegasing region also has a venue commonly used for horse racing events. The horse field is located in the Blang Bebangka area, a racetrack that is categorized as a racetrack equivalent to national-level specifications.

Horses that roam freely on the road are generally tame, meaning they can easily return home and find their way to their breeding grounds. These horses will usually follow the same path, making it easy to find their way to their breeding grounds.

These horses are usually released in the morning and return to their breeding grounds in the afternoon. As evening approaches, horse owners will usually look for them in the areas where their horses usually graze and forage.

While passing along the road, I also encountered several people riding their horses home. Some of these riders had just returned from the racetrack for horse racing practice.

There were also several horses tied and let loose in the pasture to forage. These horses appeared to be grazing in a large grassy area, tied to wooden stakes driven into the ground.

IMG_2293.jpeg

They will stay in the grass until the afternoon, living in extreme heat and surviving until they return to the breeding grounds. A horse that is well-maintained by its owner can be seen in its good, clean, and beautiful appearance.

Meanwhile, horses that live freely released into the wild appear thin, shabby, and have matted coats. The trip to Pegasing gave me the experience of seeing horses firsthand and learning about animal survival in the cool Gayo Mountains.

This concludes my post for the Wednesday Walk edition. I hope this post is entertaining and helpful.

I can only imagine how exhilarating this walk was for you. I would love to own a horse someday, theyโ€™re one of the loveliest animals to exist on Earth.

By the way, are the horses there used as means of transportation?

Hi, thank you for your response.

Horses in our area are rarely used for transportation.

They are only used as racehorses / racing horses.

It's great to see an image where horses are free and enjoying fresh grass! In the place where I live, they are mostly in stables, where there is no grass at all, just mud and dirt... ๐Ÿ˜ž Owners to take care of them, but seeing them out in the wild is a completely different thing...
Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!

What I loved about Indonesia:

  1. No homelessness (people seem to care for each other and share)
  2. Even the street animals are fed and cared for and roam free
  3. Low to no stealing! Leaving a horse like that around my parts would probably mean a missing horse when you went to fetch it

Thanks for sharing this lovely part of the world. <3
