Wednesday Walk - One more anecdote: wandering around the city of Asunción with a new travel friend. / Una anécdota más: dando vueltas por la ciudad de Asunción con un nuevo amigo de viaje. 😃❤️

Without a doubt, the city of Asunción has a lot to offer, and as travelers just passing through, we wanted to make the most of it. I love the hostel atmosphere because there are always friendly people around, willing to do something fun. As a solo traveler, you never really end up being alone, because there’s always someone who wants to do something together. That’s how our group of three came together: Noe, Juanes, and me—we walked as much as we could during our stay in Paraguay 😃.

Sin dudas, la ciudad de Asunción tiene mucho para ofrecer, y nosotros como viajeros de paso queríamos aprovechar eso al máximo. Me encanta el ambiente de hostel porque siempre hay gente buena onda alrededor, dispuesta a hacer algo divertido. Como viajero solitario, en realidad nunca terminas siendo uno, porque nunca va a faltar alguien que quiera hacer algo en conjunto. Así se conformó nuestro grupo de 3: Noe, Juanes y yo, quienes caminamos todo lo que pudimos durante nuestra estadía en Paraguay 😃.

After the bad weather forced us to return early from Areguá, there was still a lot of the day left. It was my last afternoon in Asunción, so I was still full of energy to do something else. Once we got back to the hostel, our Italian friend chose to take a nap, but Noe and I wanted another plan. Juanes, another solo traveler who was also staying with us, didn’t hesitate to join us. There wasn’t anything specifically planned, but together we headed off somewhere.

Después de que el mal clima nos obligara a volver temprano de Areguá, todavía quedaba mucho día por delante. Era mi última tarde en Asunción, así que yo seguía llena de energía como para hacer algo más. Una vez de vuelta al hostel, nuestro amigo italiano optó por tomar una siesta, pero Noe y yo queríamos otro plan. A él no dudó en sumarse Juanes, otro viajero solitario que también estaba de huésped con nosotras. No había nada precisamente definido, pero juntos fuimos a algún lugar.

Passing through the city on a weekend had the advantage of finding plenty of activity. During our improvised outing, we were able to see craft fairs, visit some small museums, and learn a bit about the history of Asunción. Even though we didn’t do any trekking on this trip, we walked a lot around the city, chatting and sharing travel stories. Even though the three of us preferred the mountains, taking a break in the city wasn’t so bad after all.

Haber pasado por la ciudad en un fin de semana tuvo la ventaja de encontrar bastante movimiento. En nuestro paseo improvisado pudimos ver ferias de artesanías, entrar a algunos pequeños museos y también conocer un poco de la historia de Asunción. A pesar de no haber hecho trekking en este viaje, caminamos muchísimo por la ciudad, charlando y compartiendo anécdotas viajeras. A pesar de que de ese grupo, los 3 preferíamos la montaña, descansar un poco en la ciudad tampoco estuvo tan mal.

Juanes is a Colombian guy who also works remotely while exploring the world. I think this is the perfect combination for living on the road: a bit of responsibility and a bit of relaxation. He had already been traveling like this for several years, and he continues to do so today. I still have him on my social media, and it makes me happy to see that he’s still enjoying different places around the map. It was nice meeting him.

Juanes es un chico colombiano que también trabaja remoto y mientras tanto le gusta explorar el mundo. Creo yo que esta es la mejor combinación para vivir de paseo: un poco de obligaciones y otro poco de distensión. Él ya estaba viajando así hacía varios años, y en la actualidad lo sigue haciendo. Todavía lo tengo en mis redes sociales y me alegra ver que sigue disfrutando en distintos lugares del mapa. Fue agradable conocerlo.

To wrap up this long day of exploring, once we were back at the hostel, we had a big dinner for everyone, hosted by the owner. I love when these kinds of group activities happen—it’s something I always hope for, because it’s when you get to socialize with your fellow guests. Everyone contributed something to the dinner, like the soy sauce brought by a Japanese traveler. Even though the hostel’s little cat didn’t seem too happy about the noisy gathering we created, we all had fun and toasted to more travels.

Para cerrar este largo día de paseo, una vez reunidos en el hostel, hicimos una gran cena para todos, invitada por el dueño del lugar. A mi me encanta que hayan este tipo de actividades grupales y es algo que siempre espero que pase, porque es cuando aprovechas para sociabilizar con tus compañeros de hospedaje. A la cena cada uno sumó algo, como la salsa de soja de un visitante japonés. A pesar de que el gatito del hostel no se veía muy contento por la reunión bulliciosa que armamos, todos nos divertimos y brindamos por más viajes.

I loved including Asunción as part of my travel itinerary. Crossing the border was quite an adventure that was definitely worth it. I met a lot of people, got to discover a bit of the culture of our neighboring country, and had some amazing days. These kinds of stories are what I like to take away from my trips—they’re what make the experience truly meaningful. Visiting Paraguay with Noe and the people we met along the way made my stay even better than I expected, and I’m grateful for that ❤️.

Me encantó haber puesto a Asunción como parte de mi itinerario de viaje. Cruzar la frontera fue toda una aventura que sin dudas valió la pena. Conocí a mucha gente, pude descubrir un poco de la cultura de nuestro país vecino y pasé unos días increíbles. Este tipo de anécdotas son las que me gusta tener cuando estoy de paseo y son las que hacen grande una experiencia. Visitar Paraguay con Noe y la gente que nos cruzamos en el camino hicieron que mi estadía sea mejor de lo que esperaba: doy gracias por eso ❤️.
