A Peaceful Walk Through the Rice Fields of Magnangoy, Hilongos, Leyte

Happy Wednesday Hivers!

My mother has been advised by her doctor to stop jogging because it puts too much stress on her knees. Since last year, she has been experiencing persistent knee pain, the docror told her she can continue to exercise but only with activities that are not strenuous.

These days, her main form of exercise is walking. However, even brisk walking can cause discomfort, so she keeps a slow and steady pace that her knees can handle.

Whenever she goes for a walk, I always accompany her. After walking around our area so many times, we sometimes crave a change of scenery. So we decided to explore a different place for our walks.

Come along, let me take you on a virtual stroll through Magnangoy, Hilongos, Leyte.

Magnangoy is part of Hilongos, but it is actually one of the barangays closer to our town. It’s a bit far from our house, so we need to ride to get there but if you like to go on a long walks or jog then the distance is just manageable. Since my mother’s knees can no longer handle long walks, we chose to take a ride instead.

Whenever I hear the word “Magnangoy,” the first thing that comes to my mind is its vast rice fields.

Every time I come home to Leyte, this is the view I always look forward to. I never take a nap when passing by this place because the rice fields are so vast and incredibly beautiful especially when they are lush and green.

In the Philippines, especially in Leyte, rice fields are incredibly vast. There are even times when you’ll see farmers drying freshly harvested rice along the roadside so it can dry faster, be milled, and eventually turned into rice.

Since there was a newly opened food place near the rice field, we decided to continue walking until we reached it. We were curious and wanted to check their menu. We didn’t really plan to dine, but we wanted to see what kind of food they offer and also check if it’s a nice place to hang out.

Upon checking their menu, we noticed that they mostly serve grilled dishes and different kinds of silog meals. I can honestly say that it’s a nice place to hang out, especially because the place has a view of a vast rice field.

We didn’t stay long at the restaurant, and we continued walking. As we walked and talked, my mom and I noticed a beautiful flower. In our place, we call it cadena de amor. You can usually find it growing in grassy areas or near cemeteries.

This flower is actually commonly used as decoration during JS Proms in our school because of its delicate and charming appearance.

And that’s my entry for #WednesdayWalk, initiated by @tattoodjay.
