Walking through the Djerdap Gorge-Lepenski Vir

For a walk on Wednesday with my wife, I chose a trip to Lepenski Vir, an hour and a half drive from my town.Lepenski Vir is one of the most important prehistoric sites in Europe. It is located in Eastern Serbia on the right bank of the Danube River in the Đerdap Gorge.It was discovered when I was 10 years old, so one of our school excursions happened to be here.Today I am here again and a lot has changed. The site was moved to a higher altitude because the largest hydroelectric power plant in Djerdap was being built there. We arrived around 10 o'clock and first headed towards the museum, which already had a lot of visitors. After the tour, we also watched a documentary film.Houses from that period were built in a trapezoidal shape, with a stone hearth in the center.The population engaged in fishing, hunting, and gathering fruits, but they also had the first forms of agriculture. Numerous sculptures made of stone have been found, depicting human and fish-like figures.







After leaving the museum, we drove to the Kovilovo viewpoint. Parked the car and then followed the footpath to the viewpoint.And then came a spectacular, 25-kilometer-wide panoramic view of the entire Donjomilanovac Valley, the Danube and neighboring Romania.



We continued towards the ethno complex Kapetan Misin breg. We were hungry and thought we would find a restaurant. However, we were only greeted by the buffet table. There was a variety of delicious food.I was especially delighted with the homemade bread and brandy.There were several houses in ethno style and we saw the open-air gallery "Man, Tree, Water" with over 400 sculptures made of wood and stone, as well as the Wine Museum.




They were making brandy here, I saw that they had a large orchard. We finished our walk in the evening. I am delighted with today. I hope you liked it too.
