The Art of Survival: Preparing Your Loved Ones for the Unthinkable

Huhm, well, I just pray there won't be any more wars again. But then, if the world should suddenly go to war, the number one thing on my mind will be how to protect those I love, especially those that are close to me. Because when we talk about war, we all know how dangerous and disastrous it may be, it goes beyond just tampering with and destroying buildings, it also takes human lives away, it can turn some into another thing, and can even render some homeless while separating families till God knows when ...

So, what I will do is find a way to reach out to them all and meet in a safe location, we will in very few minutes discuss how important it is to stick together at a time like this, discuss the situation on ground and tell each other the reality. We will also discuss where it is safe for us all to meet or stay when things begin to get out of hand, how to reach out to one another and also how to stay in touch even when we get separated. There and then, we will find something that will be used as a signal for one another when we are not together, maybe a type of sound, smoke and such. We will also discuss how that if a person finds a safe space or gets lost when things get too much he/she will leave some sort of mark for others to trace to find them

In Nigeria at the moment, we are seeing the way things are going and all of that, not as if I'm praying for a war to happen, but we gast to be prepared just in case, cause the way the tension is building up, the rumours and even the ones we can see happening, seeing those that have been displaced due to insecurity and now have to go live and start their lives somewhere else, all of that even if it's not pointing to war, is definitely pointing to the fact that we need to start preparing because anything can happen to anyone at anytime. We need to start learning survival skills, self defense and all while remaining watchful.

In light of that, I will advise that those who do not know anything about self-defense also learn one or two things ASAP, as it will come in handy in the long run. It's not as if we really want to harm others, but if the need be, and we need to protect ourselves then we will need to defend ourselves just so to stay alive.

Also, we will talk about the various safe routes, shortcuts, hidden routes and all of that that each and everyone of us know and where those routes and shortcuts may lead too, while also hammering on the need to always stay together, sleep less and be on alert always. Preparing some basic needs will also be in our plan, we will find easy to carry stuffs that can hold food, water and some medical supplies, because all of that will come in handy, aside from the movies I've watched, I've seen in reality how important those basic needs were.

I will also find my best to speak positively and keep everyone's hope alive. Even though fear can be written on everyone's face and I might be scared too, still I will let them know that fear has no help it will do for us at a moment like this. Because we need to survive, and to do that fear should be the ksdt thing on our minds holding us down. And if need be to serve in a position as the citizen of the country, will do my best to fit in somewhere that will still help me keep my loved ones safe from harm.

War is not good, and one thing about war is that at the end of the day, it often tests you, it will come to a time that it will force you to choose between yourself and a loved one, or between a loved one and the other, and you just have to choose. So, teaching them what survival really is, is very important. Because at the end of the day, staying alive without losing your humanity is the greatest victory.
