The Last Hours

That Sunday I woke up very early. I was at an inn far from any big city; the closest thing was the beach. I opened my bedroom door and the sun hadn't fully risen yet, but there was already some light in the sky and the clouds were a pale orange. Many friends were sharing this trip with me, but they'd never experienced the tranquility of a sunrise with me; usually, on the last night, they go wild with jokes, dancing, and drinks. I think they went to sleep well after midnight. I went to bed more peacefully, and it's not that I'm boring, but during a trip I really take the time to rest and disconnect from my routine. Sure, I can drink and party any weekend in the city, but this inn where we were staying was perfect...

Ese Domingo me levanté muy temprano. Estaba en una posada muy lejos de las ciudades grandes, lo más cercano eran las playas. Abrí la puerta de mi habitación y el sol no había terminado de salir, sin embrago ya había algo de claridad en el cielo y las nubes se veían de un tenue color naranja. Muchos amigos compartían conmigo ese viaje, pero ellos jamás han vivido conmigo la experiencia y la tranquilidad de un amanecer; generalmente la última noche se alocan mucho entre chistes, bailes y bebidas, creo que se fueron a dormir mucho después de la media noche. Yo me acosté más tranquilo, y no es que sea aburrido, sino que durante un viaje me tomo realmente el tiempo de descansar y también de desconectarme de la rutina, y vaya que beber e irme de fiesta lo puedo hacer un fin de semana cualquiera en la ciudad, pero esta posada donde nos hospedamos era perfecta...

I got up even before the people who worked there and didn't hesitate to jump into the pool. The silence was sublime, broken only by birdsong. Small canaries, a few roosters still crowing, and the parrot in the inn's courtyard, starting to perk up with the rising sun. You'd think it would be cold that morning, but it wasn't. I was in Falcón, one of the hottest states in my country, and even the water was the perfect temperature. I floated, swam, was happy, and took lots of pictures... But I confess I was missing two important things: my wife and my first coffee of the day 😅

Me levanté incluso primero que las personas que ahí trabajaban y no dude en lanzarme a la piscina. EL silencio era sublime, porque solo era interrumpido el canto de las aves. Pequeños canarios, algunos gallos que aún cantaban y el loro del patio de la posada que comenzaba a alegrarse con la subida del sol. Pensarías que hacía frío esa mañana, pero no es así, estaba en Falcón, uno de los Estados más calurosos de mi país, e incluso el agua tenía una temperatura de ambiente perfecta. Floté, nadé, fui feliz y tomé muchas fotografías... Pero confieso que faltaban dos cosas importantes, mi esposa y mi primer café del día 😅

I'm so grateful for my wife; she makes my life so much more special. She slept an hour longer than me, but she still got up early to keep me company, and when she arrived, so did the coffee. I think the guy in charge had to get up to work because of me 😅 and I'm almost certain you couldn't use the pool without permission, but oh well, I'd already been swimming for over an hour. That day we were going back to the city, and these were our last few hours of enjoyment, but in my opinion, it was the moment I felt the most peace—that peace that solitude and nature bring. The rest of the group got up much later, but their schedule only allowed time for breakfast and leaving, since their peak enjoyment was during the evening.

Agradezco la existencia de mi esposa, ella hace mi vida más especial. Durmió una hora más que yo, pero igual se levantó temprano para hacerme compañía, y cuando apareció ella, apareció el café. Creo que el hombre encargado se tuvo que levantar a trabajar por mi causa 😅 y estoy casi seguro que no se podía usar la piscina sin permiso, pero ya que, ya yo tenía más de una hora nadando. Ese día nos íbamos a regresar a la ciudad y estas eran las últimas horas de disfrute, pero en mi opinión, fue el momento en que sentí mas paz, esa paz que te regala la soledad y la naturaleza. El resto de los chicos se levantaron mucho más tarde, pero en su agenda solo había tiempo de desayunar y partir, ya que el disfrute máximo de ellos fue durante la noche.

My wife didn't go in the pool, but she still kept me company while we waited for the others. The good thing is that when we got back, I was ready, rested, and very relaxed and happy. I'm not saying the others weren't, but there's a big difference between someone who stayed up late drinking and someone who dedicated themselves to enjoying the last few hours. The rest of Sunday was very special, and at that moment, the energy I took away from that trip stayed with me for a long time. Even now, when I think about it, I'm filled with that energy again. The positive energy of a day well-lived fills me with optimism and smiles just thinking about it. Today a new week begins, in fact, my first week back at work since the beginning of the year, and although I can't be in one of these paradises right now, I write these words and let myself be filled with the reminder that life is beautiful and that it's worth living every second passionately 🙏

Mi esposa no entró a la piscina, pero igual me acompañó mientras esperábamos a los demás. Lo bueno es que al momento de volver estuve preparado, descansado y muy relajado y feliz, no digo que los demás no lo estuvieran, pero hay una gran diferencia entre quien se trasnochó bebiendo y quien se dedicó a disfrutar de las últimas horas. El resto del Domingo fue muy especial, y en ese momento la energía que me llevé de ese viaje me acompañó por mucho tiempo y aún así, hoy lo recuerdo y me vuelvo a llenar de esa energía. La energía positiva de un día bien vivido que de solo traerlo a mi mente me llena de optimismo y sonrisas... Hoy inicia una nueva semana, de hecho mi primera semana de trabajo desde que inició el año, y aunque no puedo estar en uno de estos paraísos justo en este momento, escribo estas palabras y me dejo impregnar con el recordatorio de que la vida es bella y de que vale la pena vivir cada segundo apasionadamente 🙏
