A Life of Sublime Journeys

For many years, Sundays meant the busiest workday for me. I remember that the fast-food restaurant where we worked to pay for our university studies was on the highway connecting the capital to my hometown, and that day many people traveled between the two cities. You might think that only lunchtime was the busiest, but no, McDonald's usually has many customers at any time of day. ​​I was very young back then and happy, but a far cry from the blissful Sundays that life blesses me with today 🙏

Por muchos años los Domingos significaron el día de trabajo más intenso para mí. Recuerdo que la tienda de comida rápida donde trabajábamos para pagar nuestros estudios universitarios estaba en la autopista que une a la capital con la ciudad donde nací, y ese día muchos viajaban entre ambas ciudades. Pensarías que solo la hora de almuerzo era la más intensa, pero no, Mc Donald's acostumbra a tener muchos clientes a cualquier hora del día. Igual era muy joven y estaba feliz, pero muy alejado de los Domingos Sublimes que hoy me regala la vida 🙏

Life is about growth, all kinds of progress, or at least that's how I see it, but I understand that everyone's situation is different, and that's why I'm grateful for my own progress. They've been very slow steps, but each one has taught me valuable lessons and shaped my character, that character and way of thinking that allows me to see life from a different perspective today. I think that in the hustle and bustle of my youth I missed out on many things; I live in a country where everything is hard work, and I've always had few friends and focused a lot on studying and working. I'm practically only now starting to relax in my 30s, and I've found great satisfaction in connecting with my surroundings, especially with nature.

La vida se trata de crecimiento, todo tipo de avance, o por lo menos así lo veo yo, pero entiendo que la situación para todos es diferente, y por eso vivo agradecido por mis propios avances. Han sido pasos muy lentos, pero todos me han dejado un gran aprendizaje y han moldeado mi carácter, ese carácter y esa manera de pensar que me hace ver la vida desde una perspectiva distinta hoy. Creo que con el agite de la juventud me perdí de muchas cosas; estoy en un país donde todo cuesta mucho trabajo y siempre he sido de pocos amigos y mucho estudio y trabajo, prácticamente me estoy relajando es ahora luego de mis 30's, y he encontrado mucha satisfacción en conectar con mi entorno, especialmente con la naturaleza.

These photographs are from an area I visited on the way to Colonia Tovar, specifically from a stop we made on our trip, just outside La Victoria, in the José Félix Ribas Municipality of Aragua State, Venezuela. The entire area is very mountainous, and there are many different landscapes, some very green hills and some very arid ones, but because it's a high-altitude area, the cool climate stands out. This stop was for breakfast, but while my family continued to enjoy delicious empanadas, I separated from the group for a few moments to connect with nature and the silence. I walked so far away that all I could hear was the sound of the river flowing, and at that moment I knew it would be a perfect Sunday ❤️

Estas fotografías son de una zona que visité camino a la Colonia Tovar, específicamente fue de una parada que hicimos en nuestro viaje, a las afueras de La Victoria, Municipio José Félix Ribas del Estado Aragua, Venezuela. Toda la zona es muy montañosa, y hay muchos paisajes diferentes, algunas colinas muy verdes y algunas muy áridas, pero al ser zonas altas destaca el clima fresco. Esta parada fue para desayunar, pero mientras mi familia seguía disfrutando de ricas empanadas, me separé del grupo unos instantes para conectar con la naturaleza y el silencio. Me alejé tanto que solo escuchaba el correr del río, y en ese momento supe que sería un Domingo perfecto ❤️

Traveling isn't new to me, and although I had always done it within my own country and with the guidance of my parents or teachers during my childhood, doing it now as an adult, making my own decisions and using my own money, makes the experience even more rewarding. In fact, something that's very motivating is that now we can easily take photographs, unlike in my childhood when we depended on film rolls and developing services that were done outside the home. I often wonder how many photographic memories I would have if I had had a camera from a young age, but at the same time, not having a phone is what has allowed me to connect with so many experiences and remember them as if they happened yesterday... Now I enjoy every moment in a different way and I focus on every little detail that life and nature have to offer. Everything is beautiful if we pay attention to the details, and I don't mind if sometimes I have to wait until Sundays to travel; it's enough to recharge my batteries and start the week in the most positive way 😎

Viajar no es nuevo para mí, y aunque siempre lo había hecho dentro de mi país y con la guía de mis padres o de mis profesores en la infancia, hacerlo ahora como adulto, con mis propias decisiones y con mi propio dinero hace que la experiencia sea aún más gratificante, de hecho, algo que motiva mucho es que ahora las fotografías son algo que podemos obtener fácilmente, no como en mi infancia que dependíamos de rollos y revelados que se hacían fuera de casa. De hecho me pregunto cuantos recuerdos fotográficos tendría si desde pequeño hubiera tenido una cámara, pero a la vez, no tener un teléfono es lo que me ha hecho conectar con tantas experiencias y recordarlas como si hubieran sido ayer... Ahora disfruto cada momento de una manera distinta y me enfoco en cada pequeño detalle que la vida y la naturaleza tiene para ofrecernos. Todo es hermoso si somos detallistas, y no me importa si a veces tengo que esperar los Domingos para poder viajar, es suficiente para recargar energías y comenzar la semana de la manera más positiva 😎
