Americano Rotan Coffee

Hello, caffeine hunter. Have you had any coffee today? I’m going to take a little trip down memory lane to my recent trip to Solo. I’d just left the Tumurun Museum and, as it was lunchtime, I was absolutely starving and in desperate need of coffee—I’d been walking a long way since leaving the guesthouse that morning. If I were to add it all up, it must have been over ten kilometres.

As I walked and looked around for somewhere to eat, I finally found a coffee shop called Rotan Coffee. Do you know my reaction when I found this café? Yep… it was like finding something incredibly precious. Without hesitation, I went straight in and was greeted by a very friendly barista when I arrived.

There were no other customers, so I was free to choose whichever seat I wanted. And since I needed to charge my phone and power bank, I chose a table with a power socket so I could easily top them up whilst enjoying my coffee and a hearty meal.

I chose my order and immediately asked for an iced Americano, plus a portion of naan and katsu seasoned with black pepper. Although it isn’t very big, this café is very comfortable and the air conditioning works well. Having just walked in the scorching heat, I was instantly happy to step into the cool, clean room.

Before long, my two orders arrived before me: a delicious rice bowl and a glass of my favourite iced Americano. Imagine how happy my throat felt as this bitter iced coffee slid down. My day felt all the more meaningful with a glass of bitter coffee. Whilst I was enjoying my meal, I also chatted to the barista, who wasn’t too busy at the time; the distance between my table and the barista’s was very close, so we could chat in a normal tone of voice. Besides, the café was very quiet.

In some corners of the café, there were still traces of beautiful Christmas decorations, and various board games were laid out—just in case visitors wanted to play a game with their friends whilst having a coffee. The barista said the café starts to get busy with visitors from late afternoon until evening; at midday like this, it tends to be quiet, especially on weekdays. Ah, as someone on a solo trip, I really needed a quiet café like this, even if just for a short while. After this, I’ll continue my journey to a place I’ve already noted down. One thing you should know—and which really surprised me about this café. The prices are incredibly affordable! How can an iced americano cost just 15,000 rupiah in this day and age, and not even reach 1 USD? Solo is amazing.

That’s all for my coffee journal today. How about you? Fancy staying for another coffee or moving on to somewhere else?
