Ha! If you’ve ever cleared a piece of land for farming, then you know it’s no small feat.
I can feel those backbreaking work, the blistered hands, and that constant battle against crazy weeds—like stubborn landlords, reappearing after you’ve just paid rent!!

That’s exactly what my uncle went through to prepare this farm. He poured sweat, time, and even sacrificed part of his savings to make this land fertile and good for planting. At one point, it felt like the farm might not even survive the early dry spell. Last time I checked, it was 18 days ago. The short beautiful greem leaves has had a remarkable miraculous transformation. Follow me as I take you through the journey.
First Barrier - The Struggle to Clear the Land
He went to meet the land owner with the following words “ IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE LAND TO BE VACANT, LET ME TILL THE SOIL AND PLANT ON IT”. The land owner was happy. He said, "I will not spend unnecessary money to maintain the land, you have my word use it". THank you! Thank you! My uncle said.
My uncle was really happy!
Before planting any seed, my uncle had to cleared the thick bushes, large brown tree roots, and short green grasses that seemed to grow back every three days. This rain scarcity reminds me of my young age. We played hide and seek games with one another! Similarly, my followers, after planting, the rains played hide-and-seek with us. For weeks, the sun burned down, and the maize and potatoes just… sat there. We depend on the rain! No irrigation my friend. No growth, no vibrancy—just stubborn stillness. My uncle would walk through the farm every evening, shaking his head. "After all that clearing, after all that planting… is this how it ends?" he’d mutter.
I could see the worry in his eyes. Farming in Nigeria is a gamble—you invest everything, and sometimes, the weather laughs at you.
Last 2 weeks, the skies finally opened up. A proper life-giving rain fell and it made a great differenc!
For the strong maize, it changed from a Pale & struggling to lush & proud

Now a taller, stronger, and green—like soldiers are standing for you all to see. The stalks have thickened, and the leaves stretch wide, soaking in the sun. My uncle walks past them now with a quiet smile.

For the beautiful Potatoes, it changed from a slow
Start to strong surge.

This farm isn’t just crops—it’s minor hope, a flicker of his hard work, and a temporary source of food for his family.
My lesson as the last born of my family.
One week, you might question every decision however; the next, you’re amazed at how nature wonderfully rewards those who persistently believe in farming.
