So here we are. Our 1st corn harvest in our garden in El Salvador, which turned out pretty good.

Because it is a winter season, which is really planting season, we decided to try growing corn in our backyard, since we are looking to get a farm, where we can also grow corn, watermelons etc. So this was a perfect opportunity for us to try it out on a smaller piece of property, to see how it will turn out and the whole process.

Because this winter, we had more rain than usual a lot of corn and many other crops didn't turn out very good and a lot of them were destroyed. We also thought for a while that our corn was destroyed, but it recovered.

The long corn stems are left behind, just in case we want to grow the beans now, which can climb up the corn stems. This is how El Salvadorian people plant their two primary crops ( corn and beans) during the winter season.

Part of the garden is in shade because of our coconut tree, so the corn turned out pretty small, but still good. So we learned that the corn needs a lot of sun and no shade.
We love corn, but because of the use of many harmfull chemicals the farmers use on the corn, we slowly stopped eating corn. But we are very happy to be able to grow our own corn without any sprays and toxic chemicals.

We had some friend (Amilkar and his daughter Carolina), who have grown corn pretty much all of their life to come and help us prepare the corn to make some traditional corn dishes, like tamalitos ( tamale made out of grated corn), atol (delicious hot drink made out of grated corn) and riguas (almost like a pancake made out of grated corn), which I will share on my next post.
We are very happy and blessed with our first corn crop in El Salvador.
Hope that you enjoyed our corn garden and wish you a very blessed weekend.

I am a great supporter of - @familyprotection which is working very hard to help the families stay together and this project is the most
amazing project that I would suggest for everyone in this hive community to check it out and support it and by doing it we are helping people in need who are trying to keep their kids safe from being taken away (kidnapped) by the Social Services. Here is the link Click here

The corns look very fresh
Love it!
Yes. It was perfect. If we waited longer, it wouldn't be so fresh anymore.
Amazing š Itās nice that you were able to grow your own corn without any harmful chemicals, and the upcoming traditional dishes sound delicious.
Yeah. Growing my own food without any chemicals is very important to us.
There are so many diffrrent dishes and ways to eat and drink the corn here and I am very excitec to finally learn how to make them most of them.
