One morning in my garden

Today is a morning for gardening, although I do something in the garden every day.

Today I was able to transplant the ferns. I removed some of the offshoots that were hanging down from the sides and managed to place them in larger bags. Now I have to wait until next week, when my supplier of bags of soil will bring me new soil to prepare my own substrate, for my plants, and for sale.

So today I transplanted some plants because it was necessary, but next week these same plants will benefit from soil fertilized with worm humus, wood ash, black river soil, fine sand, crushed dry sticks, and rice husks.

Last week I planted 10 cucumber seeds, and now they are germinating. So far, only three seedlings have sprouted. I hope that with just one cucumber plant, I can get the delicious, large cucumbers I used to have in the past.

I have also planted sunflower seeds, but none have sprouted yet. I think they still need time to emerge from the seed. I know it takes a week or so, but they should be ready to sprout by now, and I am eagerly awaiting that.

I found a one fat toad inside a tire that I recycled to plant lilies. I usually see at night in my garden. I was able to take a photo of the yellow one big and lazy one that is fast asleep among the moisture of my lily plants.

I took the tire with the lilies out because they were under some shrubs, and the sun couldn't reach them. They have become very dry and lost the long, green leaves they always had. The truth is that I neglected these plants, and I am very sorry.

My turmeric and ginger plants were also covered by the shrubs. I have lost this harvest, but I still have time to replant new seeds to harvest at the end of the year.

Until my next gardening morning.

I couldn’t figure out what the problem was with my cucumbers in the garden before. They would start to produce fruit, but then the cucumbers would turn yellow and die. The plant actually produces a lot of fruits, yet most of them don’t survive. What’s your secret to getting your cucumbers to grow and bear healthy fruit before?

There are many factors that can influence you having that bad experience:
Cucumbers like direct sun for at least 6 hours; you can also have them in fewer hours but it can influence your cucumbers.
You should not flood the substrate, they like humidity, and a substrate rich in organic matter. Have compost prepared for when they bloom; you add a little every week. If you have worm or livestock manure, they love that.
Be aware of pests, they love to come just when the flowers are at their most beautiful.
I have been able to harvest large, tasty cucumbers in my garden. What I had was time without the seeds germinating.
