Today was my father-in-law’s last day with us, at least for now. Unfortunately, jobs in his field are hard to find in our region, and when they do come up, the pay is usually very low. Because of that, he often has to travel for work, working as a heavy machinery operator. This time, he went to São Paulo to work for a water sanitation company.

To mark his departure, my wife and I prepared a special lunch: lasagna, his favorite meal. We chose lasagna because his mother used to make it for him, so we wanted to bring back that memory and make this moment even more meaningful. My wife is a great cook, and it turned out delicious — exactly the way he likes it.

Even though it was a sad day because of the goodbye, it was also a very special and memorable one. My father-in-law is leaving, but it is not a farewell. He will stay there until the project is finished — or until he decides he doesn’t like the job and comes back sooner. Knowing him, that’s definitely possible, since he’s quite demanding.

In the end, it was one of those days filled with a mix of sadness, gratitude, and the hope of seeing each other again soon.

Hoje foi o último dia do meu sogro conosco, pelo menos por enquanto. Infelizmente, o trabalho dele não costuma aparecer na nossa região e, quando aparece, geralmente paga muito pouco. Por isso, ele está sempre viajando a trabalho, atuando como operador de máquinas pesadas. Desta vez, ele foi para a cidade de São Paulo trabalhar em uma empresa de saneamento.

Para marcar essa despedida, eu e minha esposa preparamos um almoço especial: lasanha, a comida favorita dele. Escolhemos justamente esse prato porque a mãe dele sempre fazia lasanha, então quisemos trazer essa lembrança de volta e deixar esse momento guardado na memória. Minha esposa cozinha muito bem, e ficou deliciosa — exatamente do jeito que ele gosta.

Apesar de ter sido um dia de despedida e de certa tristeza, também foi um dia muito especial e marcante. Meu sogro vai, mas não é um adeus. Ele ficará por lá até a obra terminar — ou até decidir que não gostou do trabalho e resolver voltar antes. Conhecendo ele, isso também é bem possível, já que é bastante exigente.

No fim, ficou aquele sentimento misturado de saudade, gratidão e esperança de reencontro em breve.
