During my visit to the state of Alagoas, I constantly came across monuments, paintings, and examples of Northeastern art. While stopping at a gas station to fill up the car, I found several paintings depicting the local culture. There were depictions of forro musicians playing the accordion and zabumba, as well as paintings and monuments honoring Luiz Gonzaga, the King of Baião. I also noticed other paintings portraying the past of the people of the Northeast, such as families traveling on donkeys.

In the past, it was common for people to take long journeys with their families to the big cities in search of better living conditions. This image reminded me of the book Vidas Secas by Graciliano Ramos, which depicts a family leaving the Northeast in search of survival, accompanied by their dog Baleia. Throughout the narrative, the dog eventually dies of exhaustion and hunger, in one of the most poignant moments of the book. It is a story that accurately represents the reality of the people of the Northeast at that time, as well as being deeply moving.

At that stop, I took the opportunity to snap as many photos as possible while the car was being refueled. I hope you enjoyed this little account!
