On the Solisko Ridge in the High Tatras / Na Grani Soliska w tatrach Wysokich - MONOMAD CHALLENGE [ENG/PL]

🇬🇧 Upon reaching the summit of Skrajne Solisko, we truly felt the power and vastness of the High Tatras. It was the first time in a long while that we had ascended above the 2,000-meter mark.

Skrajne Solisko is the southernmost peak of the Solisko Ridge; despite an elevation of around 2,100 meters, it is one of the lower points along the entire ridge. Nevertheless, the altitude is palpable here. The slope drops steeply to the southeast, and there are no nearby peaks to obstruct the view. This offers a panorama stretching all the way to the foot of the Tatras - including sights such as Štrbské Pleso - as well as across the vast expanses of the Poprad Basin (to the east) and the Liptov Basin (to the west), extending further toward other Slovak mountain ranges, including the Low Tatras.

🇵🇱 Kiedy dotarliśmy na szczyt Skrajnego Soliska w pełni odczuliśmy potęgę i ogrom Tatr Wysokich. Był to pierwszy raz od dłuższego czasu, kiedy przekroczyliśmy granicę 2000m n.p.m.

Skrajne Solisko jest najdalej na południe wysuniętym wierzchołkiem Grani Soliska i mimo wysokości około 2100m n.p.m. jest jednym z niższych punktów całego grzbietu. Wysokość jest tu jednak mocno odczuwalna. Zbocze opada stromo w dół w kierunku południowo-wschodnim, a linii wzroku nie przecinają już żadne inne szczyty w pobliżu. Mamy więc widok do samego podnóża Tatr, sięgającego w tym przypadku m.in. do Szczyrbskiego Jeziora, oraz na całą rozległą przestrzeń Kotliny Popradzkiej (na wschodzie) i Kotliny Liptowskiej (na zachodzie), oraz dalej ku słowackim pasmom górskim w tym Tatrą Niżnym.

🇬🇧 On the left (western) side of the Solisko ridge, the Furkotna Valley - stretching approximately 5.5 kilometers - cuts deep into the Tatra Mountains. Several glacial tarns and lakes are located within this valley. A prominent peak in this view is Kriváň, the national mountain of the Slovaks; however, its summit is hidden behind clouds slightly to the right, near the center of the frame.

Szczytem wyróżniającym się w tym widoku jest narodowa góra Słowaków - Krywań. Jego wierzchołek skrywa się jednak za chmurami nieco na prawo w środku kadru.

🇬🇧 To the right (east), however, the ridge drops down into the Młynicka Valley. The photo below shows a section of this valley, with the massive Baszty ridge rising on the opposite side. In good visibility, one can also see some of the highest peaks in the Tatras such as Wysoka and Kończysta, as well as the highest of them all, Gerlach. Unfortunately, on that day, they were hidden behind a wall of dense clouds.

🇵🇱 Natomiast po prawej (wschodniej) stronie grań odpada do Doliny Młynickiej. Na poniższym zdjęciu widać fragment tej doliny z potężną granią Baszt wznoszącą się po jej drugiej stronie. Przy dobrej widoczności można też zobaczyć jedne z najwyższych szczytów Tatr takie jak Wysoką i Kończystą, oraz ten najwyższy, czyli Gerlach. Niestety tego dnia ukryte były za ścianą gęstych chmur.

🇬🇧 When we reached Skrajne Solisko, we first walked to the end of the official trail. There, another peak on the ridge came into view: the massive Młynickie Solisko (2,301 m a.s.l.). I stood rooted to the spot at the sight of it - a massive, "triangular" massif with a distinct, rather pointed summit. I could see a path leading up to the top, but there were no further markers for a designated trail. As I later learned, the official trails end at Skrajne Solisko.

🇵🇱 Kiedy dotarliśmy na Skrajne Solisko, najpierw przeszliśmy do końca oficjalnego szlaku. Tam naszym oczom ukazał się kolejny szczyt grani - potężne Młynickie Solisko (2301m n.p.m.). Stanąłem jak wryty widząc ten szczyt. Potężny "trójkątny" masyw z wyraźnym, dość spiczastym wierzchołkiem. Widziałem, że na szczyt prowadzi jakaś ścieżka, jednak nie widziałem dalszych oznaczeń wytyczonego szlaku. Jak się później dowiedziałem na Skrajnym Solisku kończą się oficjalne szlaki.

🇬🇧 Continuing the journey is possible only with a qualified guide or for individuals with the appropriate credentials, such as experienced Tatra climbers. While it is a pity in one sense, I personally felt a twinge of dread at the thought of proceeding further along the Solisko Ridge. This was likely due to a lack of experience and familiarity with such extreme exposure and precipitous terrain.

The absence of an official marked trail is due to nature conservation measures. For this reason, many Tatra peaks are off-limits to the general hiking public.

🇵🇱 Dalsza podróż możliwa jest jedynie z wykfalifikowanym przewodnikiem, bądź po prostu dla osób z odpowiednimi uprawnieniami w tym taterników. Z jednej strony szkoda, ale z drugiej osobiście czułem lekkie przerażenie na myśl od kontynuacji w głąb Grani Soliska. Pewnie kwestia braku doświadczenie i obycia z tak dużymi ekspozycjami i bardzo stromą rzeźbą terenu.

Brak wytyczonego oficjalnie szlaku uwarunkowany jest ochroną przyrody. Z tego względu wiele tatrzańskich szczytów wyłączonych jest z dostępności dla szerszego grona turystów górskich.

🇬🇧 We spent nearly half an hour here exploring the area and feasting our eyes on the views. I took a ton of photos - it was hard to resist.

🇵🇱 Spędziliśmy tu prawie pół godziny badając teren i ciesząc oczy widokami. Zrobiłem mnóstwo zdjęć - ciężko było się powstrzymać.

🇬🇧 Some of the tourists climbed onto a rocky outcrop that drops away almost vertically. One of them was sitting right at the edge of the precipice, though I didn't manage to snap a photo of it. I admire such courage - it is something I lack myself. I feel fairly confident in the mountains, yet very steep faces make me feel uneasy, perhaps even slightly afraid. Still, I am slowly getting more accustomed to such situations "on the edge."

🇵🇱 Część turystów wspięło się na skalny występek, który niemal pionowo opada w dół. Jeden z nich siedział nad samą przepaścią, czego jednak nie zdążyłem sfotografować. Podziwiam taką odwagę, której sam nie posiadam. Dość pewnie czuję się w górach, jednak bardzo strome ściany powodują u mnie niepewność, być może nawet lekki strach. Powoli jednak coraz bardziej przyzwyczajam się do takich sytuacji "nad krawędzią".

🇬🇧 The high-mountain landscape of the High Tatras is truly breathtaking, and I find it hard to leave these mountains every time. I feel completely at home here. They offer an incredible sense of freedom and a chance to clear the mind; the physical exertion of summiting these peaks automatically puts a broad smile on my face. That is perhaps the best part of it all. Every step, often requiring careful thought and demanding effort, also brings a deep sense of focus that makes you truly feel present in the here and now.

🇵🇱 Wysokogórski krajobraz Tatr Wysokich naprawdę zapiera dech w piersiach i za każdym razem jest mi ciężko opuszczać te góry. Czuję się tu jak ryba w wodzie. Dają niesamowite poczucie wolności, pozwalają oczyścić umysł, a zdobywanie tych szczytów przynosi wysiłek, który automatycznie generuje szeroki uśmiech na twarzy. To właśnie jest chyba najlepsze w tym wszystkim. Każdy krok, który niejednokrotnie musi być przemyślany , któremu towarzyszy wysiłek, ale i skupienie dające mocno odczuwalne uczucie bycia tu i teraz.

🇬🇧 The mountains give me all of this, and after every hike, I feel like a new person. I often feel every muscle that was put to work during the trek, but it is a pleasant sensation. It lets me know that I have repaid nature for the wonders it created by leaving my own mark on the mountains, a mark defined by physical exertion and, often, streams of sweat.

🇵🇱 Góry dają mi to wszystko i po każdej takiej wędrówce czuję się jak nowo narodzony. Czuję też często każdy mięsień zaangażowany w wędrówkę, ale to przyjemne uczucie. Wiem dzięki temu, że odpłaciłem się naturze za cuda, które stworzyła zostawiając w górach ślad po sobie okraszony wysiłkiem i często strugami potu.

🇬🇧 Perhaps not everyone will understand my words. You have to experience the mountains firsthand to fully grasp and feel their magnetic pull. I have often heard it said that once someone heads into the mountains and falls in love with what they see and experience, they become hooked for life. Or else they decide it isn't for them and never return. It is a subjective matter, and I understand that. Personally, however, I belong to that first group.

🇵🇱 Być może nie każdy zrozumie moja słowa. Góry trzeba poczuć na własnej skórze, żeby w pełni zrozumieć i poczuć ich magnetyzm. Wielokrotnie spotykałem się z opinią, że jeśli ktoś raz wyruszy w góry i zakocha się w tym, co zobaczył i przeżył, to już do końca życia wpadnie w uzależnienie. Albo stwierdzi, że to nie dla niego i już nigdy w góry nie wróci. To subiektywna sprawa i ja to rozumiem. Sam jednak należę do tej pierwszej grupy.

🇬🇧 I eagerly look forward to every opportunity to return to the mountains - and not just the high, formidable ones like the Tatras. Every mountain range has its own unique charm, and it isn't always about the scenery; often, it is the hike itself that brings joy, rather than the destination.

🇵🇱 Z utęsknieniem czekam na każdą możliwość powrotu w górskie tereny. Nie tylko te wysokie i groźne, jak Tatry. Każde góry mają swój własny, osobisty urok i nie zawsze chodzi w nich o widokowe aspekty. Często sama wędrówka, jest tym, co przynosi radość, a nie jej cel.
