Camp with compacted soil

This picture was taken weeks after fertilising with guinea pig guano, ground avocado shells, egg shells and dehydrated and ground fish bones. The results were not as expected because the fertiliser was not available to the plants.

Among insects

The insects returned to feed on the leaves of: Sweet potato, Caigua and Mastuerzo. As the population was small, the biological controllers controlled them. Although, at that time I helped them by removing some maggots from the leaves.

One way to improve the soil is to break up the plough layer, which was compacted. For this I did a heavy irrigation. Then, the idea was to keep the moisture in by making a mulch or cushion. For this I used a diseased aloe vera and chopped its leaves. Finally, I covered the neck of the plant with the aloe mulch.

Recuperar un suelo no es tan sencillo como dice la teoría. Hay muchas variables que actúan al mismo tiempo y eso lo hace entretenido.

Campito con suelo compactado

Esta foto fue semanas después de fertilizarlo con Guano de cuy, cáscara de palta molida, cáscara de huevo y espinas de pescado deshidratado y molido. Los resultados no fueron los esperados debido a que los abonado no estaban disponibles para las plantas.

Insectos

Volvieron los insectos a alimentarse de las hojas de: Camote, Caigua y Mastuerzo. Al ser poca población, los controladores biológicos lo controlaron. Aunque, en ese momento les ayudé sacando algunos gusanos de las hojas.

Manos a la obra

Una forma de mejorar el suelo es rompiendo la capa arable, la cual estaba compactada. Para esto hice un riego pesado. Luego, la idea fue mantener la humedad haciendo un mulch o acolchado. Para esto utilicé una sábila enferma y piqué sus hojas. Finalmente, cubrí el cuello de planta con el acolchado de sábila.
