sharing experiences on how to care for turmeric in polybags

Hello gardeners lovers,,,,
We're almost at the end of 2025. How are our gardens doing this year? Have they been successful? We've probably had many ups and downs in cultivating our gardens, and all the events in the garden are part of our lives as garden lovers. Keep up the good work, fellow garden lovers, who are always making the earth greener and bringing a breath of freshness to our planet. Gardening is a hobby that can green our earth and reduce pollution caused by human activities.

On this occasion, I'd like to share a little of my experience caring for turmeric plants in polybags. I use polybags due to limited space and to make caring for the plants easier. So, for those of you who enjoy gardening but don't have a large plot of land, polybags can be an alternative for growing various. For friends who have less fertile and rocky land, polybags can be an alternative for planting.

The turmeric rhizomes produced from polybags are not large, when compared to turmeric rhizomes planted directly in the ground, but turmeric plants are easier to care for in polybags, in fact I don't give any fertilizer to the turmeric plants I plant in polybags. The rhizomes produced are not large but numerous, this occurs because the turmeric rhizomes grow in clusters in one place in the polybag.

A common problem when growing turmeric in polybags is not providing enough soil for the rhizomes that are starting to grow. This results in the rhizomes that grow above the soil surface not growing optimally. The rhizomes become smaller.

If we experience a problem like this, there are two things we can do, the first is to remove the turmeric rhizome that grows above the surface of the soil, then move it into another polybag, in this way, we can save the turmeric plant and at the same time increase the number of turmeric plants.

The second way we can do this is by adding soil to the surface of the turmeric rhizome, in this way the turmeric rhizome will grow optimally.

Another common problem when growing turmeric in polybags is fungus. This white fungus attacks the turmeric rhizomes, causing them to dry out and shrink. This fungus absorbs nutrients from the rhizomes, preventing them from growing optimally.

So that the fungus does not spread to other turmeric rhizomes, it is best to harvest the turmeric rhizomes.

How do you know if turmeric rhizomes are infected with fungus?

Even though turmeric rhizomes grow underground, we can still tell if our turmeric plants are infected with fungus. Usually, we can do this by observing the growth of the plant stem. Healthy turmeric plants are green, but if the turmeric plant is infected with fungus, the stem will turn yellow.

Turmeric rhizomes in polybags can be harvested at the age of 5 months. If the turmeric rhizomes are harvested after one year, the turmeric rhizomes will become dry and start to rot. Therefore, the best time to harvest turmeric rhizomes is at the age of 5-12 months.

That's my personal experience when planting turmeric, I hope it will be useful for friends who love gardens.

Don't forget to support me💕
