Iβm not a tomato expert, though I have planted tomatoes before and never really cared much about the varieties. I just let them grow, and sometimes there are lots of fruits, sometimes just okay.
But after tasting how nice the Black Krim tomatoes were last year, I realised they were heirloom varieties. Thatβs why I decided to plant the seeds . See seedlings/first post
And I took special care of two seedlings indoors during winter, then moved them outside when the weather got cooler overwintering/2nd post

The seeds I got from this variety and says black krim, but it wasn't black.

After a week, the colour changed, so I thought, yes it is black krim!

These were the seedlings.

Then I overwintered a couple indoors.

And now they are bearing fruits!
Anyway, today the weather was so rainy, windy, and sunny, it seemed like it couldnβt decide what it wanted, and I found my tomatoes lying on the ground.

In short, my stakes werenβt strong enough to support them.

And in fact, one of the stakes was growing and had to be pulled out. It developed roots!

I only realised it was an elderberry stem. So I transferred it to another pot and will decide later where to plant it.

Because the rain and wind were so heavy, and I was worried my tomato branches might snap, I decided to give the tomatoes some support. I worked through the rain and wind today to fix it.

I put four bamboo stakes in each pot and tied them at the top.

Then I secured the branches to the stakes.

I was really pleased when it was done. Well supported (I hope) :)

And I also have the accidentally propagated elderberry tree as a bonus!

See, those fruits are getting heavier.

And more flowers are appearing!

One thing I like is how these tomato stems look; they shimmer when the sun hits them.

See the different colours? Pink, green, blue, orange, and red sparkles. And when you rub it, that beautiful tomato smell comes out.

The main tomato fruit I got the seeds from was more purplish red, but why I got this purplish black colour, I don't know.

Here are the young fruits.

Then turning black.

Turning reddish.

The first couple of fruits were even more confusing as they were more black and matte, which made me wonder why.

I picked the first fruits since it was the only one ripe, and I was excited to see what it looked like inside.
I can see a bit of red blush undertone.

Inside, wow! Purplish red.

Firm and not mushy.

I enjoyed it as a side salad.

And the taste was really delicious, it was sweet with a little saltiness, almost like flavoured.
But until now, I don't understand how these tomatoes turned out like this and what type this really is. Any idea?
But I think I have special ones!
Happy planting, everyone!

I remember when I was a child that my mom bought black tomatoes, but I haven't seen them for a while... Your tomato looks healthy, and even by looking at photos, I could bet they are tasty! π
I wonder why they are not selling them anymore in my area?
Btw., how long did it take to turn from red to that purple-black?

That's lovely, I am pleased that the post brought back memories of the black tomatoes your mum bought. :)
I think people like attractive colours and black tomatoes don't sell well, but nutritionally they are superior.
It took about a week or so outside the fridge, then the colour changed to purplish black. π

Wow, what big tomatoes and what a deep color. I love them; they've grown exceptionally well. I love agriculture, and watching crops grow is incredible and very satisfying. Thank you for such a lovely post.
Thank you. π
You're welcome friend π.
I want to plant this variety for long time, but I still prepare my knowladge ehehe
Now my tomato plants all dried! Have no rain since almost 2 month. Dried seasion eveyday around up tp 34 celcius
I recently been learning about tomatoes as this got me interested. :)
It has been very warm here too! We've had heat waves and just recently had rains though not enough to soak the ground. I hope you'll recover your tomatoes. π
Anyway, from many plants, how the plant still survive?
I took them in during winter. I kept them in a small plant pot. :)
So how many plants can survive until now?

It looks like a lovely variety, so meaty. I might try to grow them next year. Did your plants not die after summer? I thought it they're annual plants?

Only two survived. π

IΒ΄ve never try this particular kind but I culd almost swear it is very sweet. Enjoy your tomato. about the color, let me ask you something, were you are at there was cool, not very sunny weather arround the days the fruit was growing?
Thank you, yes, very sweet, the weather here was cooler, then warm in the summer when the fruit comes out.
I asked because, Tomato fruit colors has a very interesting feature, the collors (the actual molecule that gives the fruit its collors) are light sensitive. It has de function to protect the fruit from UV radiation from sunlight, so the fruit that are more exposed tend to be lighter colored (tending even to yellow, depending on the amount of sun they receive), and those that are more protected tend to be more stronger colored, so if the weather was cool and clowdy then the fruit shoul be darker, if the weather was sunny and warmer (and the fruit was exposed to sun) they tend to be lighter.

Wow! Lovely photos! Your tomatoes look so good and healthy. What a harvest!
Thank you π
Welcome!
Black tomatoes, interesting, do they have better nutrition benefits?
I've never seen them, nor from gardens nor in the shop, the plant looks stronger than red ones
They are heirloom and richer in antioxidants and nutrition than regular ones, and have a nicer flavour.
One question, @theworldaroundme did you use pestiside or something to avoid pest?
No I didn't use any at all. π
Some kind of black tomato, I'm not really an expert on that
The tomatoes look healthy and there will be a good harvest
Congratulations
