Greenhouse in January

(edited)

Hello everyone.
January is the time of the year when there is no work in the greenhouse except occasional checking on the plants. Yes it snowed already and it is fairly cold outside these days. Planting for spring in the greenhouse is done and you wait and enjoy winter.
In order to have some vegetables in spring you can plant it early as September, November and early December as well and wait until plants grow.
The earlier you plant, the faster you can start using your vegetables.
This year in our greenhouse we planted green onions, spinach, chard, variety of lettuce. We did not plant as early as we could but this year all plants planted are doing good and they grow nicely. Last year we had to replant lettuce because it did not grow.

Also maybe there will be new project regarding greenhouse. More on that in the end of the post.

The plants are still small but we will zoom in on them. On the sides of the Greenhouse the snow is visible. Greenhouse is normally open during summer but now everything is closed and you can sense temperature difference inside and outside.

Green onions

Green onions vary in height but most important part is that they started to grow.

They grow nicely for now. With warmer weather they will grow faster.

Lettuce

We plant onions in rows and in between there is lettuce. There are three different lettuce types.

We plant them together since there is space between onions and they grow nicely together.

As you can see green onions and lettuce on one place.

Spinach
This is spinach. Aside from lettuce, spinach is planted as well in between green onions. For now doing good with many spinaches growing around.

Let me add couple photos of green onions and lettuce from the last year.
These are photos from the middle of March last year.

This as year same as year before we have some garlic in the corners of the greenhouse. And guess what?
More lettuce.

Here are strawberries from last year. We experimented and planted them for the first time inside the last year. There were some strawberries and now there should be more. It was just to try it out. It would be nice to have one greenhouse full of strawberries.

Thats it for now on Greenhouse and January update.

Another project that I mentioned in the beginning regarding greenhouse is that we may add more more greenhouse to our garden. This one has 50 m2 and other one, if we decide to built it, could be a bit bigger.
We have bought material and metal structure for new one several years back but did not have opportunity to assemble it.
Now if we do so, one greenhouse would be used for peppers only.
If we decide to make one more greenhouse it should start somewhere in March. If so I will try to document the process.

Hive gardeners enjoy your winter until spring and start of the garden work.

Such a calm and lovely greenhouse update. Its nice to see how even in winter, life continues to grow with patience and planning. Your green onions and lettuce look healthy and well cared for. Planting early pays off in spring.
