Garden journal - First days of May in the Greenhouse

(edited)

Hello everyone.
It is time for new #gardenjournal post.
Beginning of May brings more work in garden and greenhouse. After rainy days weather is warm now and grass is everywhere. Cutting grass is steady job these days.
Greenhouse is doing well. It is time to collect remaining green onions and lettuce which are doing so good. We have to make space for planting other vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. So these days we are collecting green onions and lettuce in the middle part of the greenhouse and we start to prepare soil for the new plants.

We picked green onions and lettuce together.
We picked clean and fresh lettuce and left some that have some damage on the leaves.

We did not touch yet the sides of the greenhouse where there is some lettuce and green onions. Later we will clean and collect lettuce and onions from one side of the greenhouse and we will leave one to have fresh lettuce and green onions.

These are fresh green onions that we picked while cleaning up middle part of the greenhouse.

We picked almost all green onions on one place.

At the same time cleaning is done and green onions are ready for use.

Here you can see remaning lettuce with flat leaves on the one side. We will clean up this side as well. Most probably on this side we will plant different types of peppers.

These are pepper that we planted as seed and now they are quite big.

Since we did not remove lettuce and green onions yet we lifted box with peppers in the greenhouse. This way we could use lettuce and green onions and seeds can benefit from warm temperature in the greenhouse.

There are different types of the peppers. Four different type to be exact. Some of them are for cooking and others to make different jar type vegetable mix for later use.

)

These are cucumbers.

This year we have two types of cucumbers. One of them are long ones and others are shorter ones. We use long ones for salad and short ones as pickles.

These are melons. One of favorite garden sweets for me.

Water melons. When I took these photos they were still growing.

Couple days later I took these photos and water melons are doing much better.

Today we started to pick remaining lettuce on right side of the greenhouse.

Only small part is collected and more to pick. It may take day or two depending on available time and conditions to pick. Too hot weather is not an option. But today it started to rain again so it is easier to be in the greenhouse during day.

Lettuce and green onions are delicious salad combination.

Fresh mint in the greenhouse. Mint tea is always welcome.

These are marigolds that we planted some time back. They are growing slowly but surely. Nice to have them around house and inside the greenhouse as well.

Also I would like to show you photos that I took 6 days apart from each other.
You can see difference in only 6 days in greenhouse.
These are melons and cucumbers.

First photo - melons.

Today we bought new tomatoes and more peppers for the greenhouse. After preparation of soil is done we will add these lovely plants to it.
The greenhouse owner is locally know and you can see that all plants look good and healthy.

We got several different peppers.

Also several different tomato plants.

After we prepare soil in next days we can plant tomatoes and peppers.

We got these strawberries so we have to plant them as well.
Rainy days will help while planting.

In other parts of garden we have different fruits. Here I want to share our black mulberry tree. For long time there was no leaves this year and tree branches looked kind of dry so I thought that tree did not survive winter. However it was a bit late with vegetation but not there are many fruits on it.

It is only black mulberry tree in our garden as we have smaller white mulberry tree. Mulberries are delicious fruits.

And one more fruit I want to mention is fig tree.
They are growing nicely. Interesting with fig tree that they grow fruit almost same as leaves and maybe on some parts even before leaves.

Cold did not affect fruits yet so maybe we can have figs earlier this year.
Figs grow in lets say cycles and sometimes first cycle of figs fall off and you have second or third cycle to eat.

All in all greenhouse and garden fruits are doing well. With warmer weather there is more and more job to be done and greenhouse is number one focus at the moment.
This is all for this edition of garden journal.

Yes it is. Greenhouse needs daily care but harvest time is nice.
Have a good day.

you have so many varieties of plants! Oh, you make me want to grow lettuce but unfortunately in my area it is too hot around 28-33 celcius, is it possible if it is red lettuce?

Having different plants is good. Some of them are for greenhouse and other for outside garden. I dont know that much about red lettuce. Checking with someone in your area is best way to know for sure.
Have a nice day

I also grow strawberries and the kids love them. My youngest daughter loves eating blackberries and she even picks them herself hahaha...

I hope your harvest is amazing. I hope your figs aren't affected by the cold.
