Transplanting the tomato and pepper plants [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends of Hive and Hive Garden, I hope you’re all well. I wanted to let you know today that I’ve finally started transplanting the Margariteño tomato and pepper plants that I’d been meaning to move, as they’ve grown quite a bit and needed more space.

This is actually the third time I’ve repotted them, because they started out in small pots together when I set up the seedbed, and then I moved them to other pots once they’d grown enough. Now this will be the last time. I’d already told you I was making compost because I was going to have to plant some of them directly in the ground, and I wanted to enrich the soil a bit as it isn’t very good.

As for the tomato plants, I’ve managed to fit some into large plastic pots, which I think will be fine for them to bear fruit in, and I’m already preparing the holes to plant the others – there aren’t that many left because I gave some to my mum and also to one of my wife’s aunts, who swapped them for three chilli plants that are still quite small.

For the sweet peppers, I’m going to use some empty paint pots I had lying around the house, which I washed a while ago specifically for this purpose. I’ve been putting the remaining sweet pepper seedlings in them because, apart from sowing fewer seeds, I’ve also given some away to my mum and to a cousin of my wife’s who visited us recently; he saw the seedbed and I gave him two.

The paprika plants already have flower buds, and today I noticed that several of the tomato plants have them too. Now we’ll see if everything continues to go well with the plants and we can harvest tomatoes and paprika from our own garden.

I think I mentioned last time I popped in that the watermelon and pumpkin plants didn’t thrive, but for now the cassava plants are still growing well and I hope we’ll have a good harvest when the time comes to dig them up. The spring onions are growing fast; several already have long stalks and we’ll soon be able to use them for cooking.

Hola amigos de Hive y de Hive Garden, espero que se encuentren bien. Hoy les quise venir a contar que por fin comencé a trasplantar las matas de tomate margariteño y pimentón que tenía pendiente porque ya han crecido bastante y necesitaban un espacio más grande.

Ya está es la tercera vez que las transplanto porque comenzaron en envases pequeños varias juntas cuando hice el semillero y después las cambié para otros envases cuando crecieron lo suficiente y ahora ya será la última vez y ya yo les había contado que estaba haciendo compost porque iba a tener que sembrar algunas directo en la tierra y quería abonarla un poco porque esta no es una tierra muy buena.

Para las matas de tomate pude meter algunas en unos envases de plástico grandes que yo creo que están bien para que den frutos ahí y ya estoy preparando los huecos para meter las otras, que no quedan tantas porque le di unas a mi mamá y también a una tía de mi esposa que me las cambió por tres de ají que todavía están pequeñas.

Para las de pimentón voy a usar envases de pintura que tenía vacíos en la casa y que lavé hace tiempo para usarlos en esto y ahí he ido metiendo las que me quedaron de pimentón porque aparte que sembré menos semillas también he regalado a mi mamá y a un primo de mi esposa que nos visitó en estos días y vio el semillero y le regalé dos.

Ya las matas de pimentón tienen botones para flores y de tomate hoy me fijé que hay varias que también tienen, ahora vamos a ver si todo sigue bien con las matas y podemos cosechar tomates y pimentones de nuestra propia casa.

Creo que ya les conté la última vez que pasé por aquí que las matas de patilla y auyama no prosperaron, pero por ahora las de yuca siguen creciendo bien y espero que también podamos tener una buena cosecha cuando sea el tiempo de sacarlas. Los cebollines están creciendo rápido, ya varias tienen tallos largos y pronto los vamos a poder usar para cocinar.
