I don't want to paint, says my man. I'm fed up with DIY. And I get it - a photo memory popped up from ten years ago where he was removing and installing a window at the old place, and he's still doing that now - we're waiting for a window to come, he's built the alcove for the fireplace now and got a plasterer in (one job he will NOT do) and there's still the skirting to do, the kitchen splashback, more painting... poor boy. At least the jobs keep him buff - his pecs are rock hard, ooh er.

But if Jamie doesn't have DIY inside to do, you bet he's going to invent something outside to do. We finally took a big pile of plasterboard and framing to the tip (sorry @holoz0r, couldn absolutely not find a use for it) and it was time to sort out the area around the back steps leading to the garden and the front of the shed. Eventually, the front of the shed will be replaced with fresh corrugated iron, that Aussie building staple, and some new doors, plus aggregrate and the drive levelled better, but at least we could sort out the overgrown grevillea and the bed along the fence which has probably been made thirty odd years ago and that was all rotting and full of weeds.

We had to go to a mates place and pick up a heap of volcanic rocks, because he was trying to get rid of him as his toddler fell over and almost cracked his skull (kid should wear a helmet instead) to border the banksia by the back fence.

We also put an old sheet of corruaged iron inside the pylons of the deck so that you can't see the stuff stored under there from the garden, which looks a lot neater. I'm going to get two large pots to put there for some kind of kitchen herbs or maybe just cactus, I don't know. Something to make it look really lovely. We had to dig out all the weeds and Jamie scraped it lower so it was more level with the driveway.

Then it was the side bed - sadly we didn't have enough sleepers to continue it up to drive and Bunnings is shut on Good Friday (dammit) so that'll be finished next week. And I'm still contemplating what plants will go in there - as it's far from the hose it has to be something native that will hack neglect.

We were pretty pleased with what we achieved - it looks, as we always say 'more cared for' - less weeds, less piles of junk.
Now, about that painting, Jamie....

I know you know, but it bears repeating, you’re blessed to have someone so capable at your command. My only available helper dug a hole a few days ago and promptly fell into it, twisting his ankle. It’s now black, blue, and twice its normal size.
Oh no! I hope your only available helper is okay D: That sounds like a maybe go get it looked at if not done already? And I sincerely apologise for laughing (still in sympathy as honestly it's something I would probably do) when I read this.
Fear not, he's already been examined and declared psychotic by nurse weirdy, a backyard physician in her spare time:)

Oh no .. I think I have the only good help on the planet. I hope his ankle mends quickly.
I am also useless as help... Fell off my bike (it wasn't even moving, I tried to start up against a tree root, fuckwit) and hurt my elbow.
I don't know if I missed what it looked like before or if I just don't remember (either is equally likely) but it looks pretty good!
Though I was staring at your rocks and thinking about having to get Youngest to move this HUGE one I found in one of the smaller garden beds when I was commencing Floral Experiment #2. I managed to dig it out (it was in the "wrong spot" for the border and turned out to be alot bigger than I thought) and roll it away but when I went to pick it up later it was going to be a lot more effort than I wanted to put in so I asked Youngest if he was able to move it and he straight up laughed at it, hefted it up no dramas and asked me where I wanted it XD It's now near the tree bed where it might replace another couple of rocks under one of the philodendron(?) leaves if I need anymore.
Anyway that border is lovely :D
The corrugated sheet looks really classic :)
The thing about rocks is they get heavier the older you get 😂😂😂
Yeh I'm kind of disgusted by that XD Like I'm strength training very regularly (to some value of strength training, my job involves moving equipment and throwing and catching children) why am I getting weaker aaaargh XD
That last photo was an area I hadn't seen yet or didn't realize what it was. Your garden is becoming so orderly, compared to the old one! I still do love seeing all the progress, both inside and out. :))
Yeah I know I didn't really share it as it was a mess of weeds and a pile of diy rubbish!!! We have been struggling to see the potential but think we have it now... It'll be good when he can fix the rusty shed door so he can open it up when he's working in there to see birds etc

It's looking beautiful, Jamie is sure putting in a lot of hard labor getting that place in ship shape condition. Not to mention the indoor tasks as well, I wish I were still strong enough to handle all of that work. But the old COVID vaccine left me with heart and lung problems that can't be completely remediated sadly!
Sounds like your mate there needs to have a yard made of rubber to keep that kid from getting injured. Poor kid hitting his head on those rocks must have been traumatic! But they make a great addition to your backyard, that much is certain!
I hope you both enjoy your Easter weekend, and the yard is looking amazing!

We did joke that the kid needed to wear a pool noodle round his head else they could make pool noodle garden edging 😂 The rocks in their garden are a bit haphazard and not really a landscape design feature, as well as dangerous for toddlers, so I can see why she feels so vehement!
So sorry to hear you're one of the ones who were impacted by the vaccine. A good friend of mine had heart problems immediately and it took her a good year to recover, but she's young so that worked in her favour.
I am feeling really sorry for Jamie and looking forward to these jobs being done so he can finally relax. One last push. He's not getting younger either.
What I do love is all the Hive folk in these comments wishing my poor husband well. He has quite the reputation here despite never having an account 😂😂😂

Another huge job done, and it looks so nice and tidy. Those lava rocks really add character to the space. Have fun planting.
Wow the garden looks amazing! Great job for tidying up.
Thanks a lot!
This place is transformed so nicely from what it once was.
It's getting better by the day!
Oh man, that’s the kind of project that’ll keep a guy busy for months but still leave you wondering why he’s not done yet. The rocks by the grevillea look great though, proves even "borrowed" chaos can become something nice with effort. Just don’t let him near my garden shed. That guy’s got DIY energy for days.
Hahah yeah he's full on but he's so tired now... He needs a holiday.
