Hello friends, yesterday was the day to get my hands dirty and take another step in a small project I've been building little by little. I planted a Fuji apple tree, something I've been planning for some time. I've always liked fruit trees, not only for what they produce, but for everything they represent patience, care, and time. Above all, I'm creating a small vegetable garden in my yard with fruit trees.

The apple tree I planted is still young, as you can see from the photos. It came from a nursery where I usually buy the plants I put here next to my house on my land, well identified, and now it begins a new phase, already in its permanent location. I chose a spot with good sun exposure and prepared the soil as best as possible, loosening it well so that the roots can develop without difficulty, and I added a little manure to the soil to give the tree the nutrients it needs. It's a simple job, but it requires attention to detail.

While I was planting, I thought about how these things nowadays are almost an act of resistance. We live very much in the immediate, in the fast pace, and planting a tree is exactly the opposite of that. It's accepting that the results aren't for tomorrow or next month, but for years from now. And that, for me, has great value because since I was little I've always loved gardens, planting trees, and sowing seeds.

This Fuji apple tree won't be alone for long; the idea is to plant another apple tree, this time a green apple variety. Besides really liking this type of apple, there's also a practical reason behind it: having two different varieties helps a lot with pollination, which increases the chances of harvesting better, healthier apples in greater quantities in the future. Nature works better when there's diversity, and I already have several trees, from persimmon trees to pear trees, peach trees, etc., and now it's time for apple trees.

I'm no expert in fruit growing, but I like to learn by doing; I observe, read, listen to advice, and above all, test, and that's how I knew the need to plant another apple tree near this one. I know that not everything will turn out perfectly; there might be pests, there might be years with low production, some trees might not adapt so well, but that's part of it, and with care and love for the plants, we can achieve good results.

One thing that gives me satisfaction is imagining this space in a few years. Seeing the apple tree bigger, with strong branches, green leaves, and perhaps full of apples, and seeing my children harvesting the apples and other fruits from these trees, and I also imagine harvesting them directly from the tree, knowing that I've been involved since day one, from the hole dug in the ground to the first fruits.

Planting trees is also a way of leaving something for the future. Even if we aren't always the ones who benefit from everything, someone else will. It could be family, friends, or simply whoever is nearby. This gives a different meaning to the work and a lot of satisfaction.

For now, the Fuji apple tree remains secure, protected, and cared for. I will water it when necessary and pay attention to its development. Soon, I hope to share here as well the planting of the green apple tree, thus completing this small orchard that is beginning to take shape.

Olá amigos ontem foi dia de meter as mãos na terra e dar mais um passo num pequeno projeto que tenho vindo a construir aos poucos. Plantei uma macieira da variedade Fuji, algo que já andava a planear há algum tempo. Sempre gostei de árvores de fruto, não só pelo que produzem, mas por tudo o que representam paciência, cuidado e tempo e acima de tudo estou a fazer uma pequena horta no jardim com arvores de fruto.

A macieira que plantei ainda é jovem, como se pode ver pelas fotos. Veio de viveiro onde costumo comprar as plantas que coloco aqui junto a casa no meu terreno, bem identificada, e agora começa uma nova fase, já no solo definitivo. Escolhi um local com boa exposição ao sol e preparei a terra da melhor forma possível, soltando bem o solo para que as raízes possam desenvolver-se sem dificuldade e adicionei um pouco de estrume a terra para dar os nutrientes que a árvore necessita é um trabalho simples, mas que exige atenção aos detalhes.

Enquanto estava a plantar, pensei em como estas coisas hoje em dia são quase um ato de resistência. Vivemos muito no imediato, no rápido, e plantar uma árvore é exatamente o contrário disso. É aceitar que os resultados não são para amanhã nem para o próximo mês são para daqui a anos. E isso, para mim tem muito valor porque eu desde pequeno que sempre gostei de jardins e de plantar arvores e de semear.

Esta macieira Fuji não vai estar sozinha por muito tempo a ideia é plantar ainda outra macieira, desta vez de maçã verde. Além de gostar bastante desse tipo de maçã, há também uma razão prática por trás disso ter duas variedades diferentes ajuda bastante na polinização, o que aumenta as hipóteses de no futuro colher maçãs melhores, mais saudáveis e em maior quantidade. A natureza funciona melhor quando há diversidade e eu já tenho diversas árvores desde diospireiro, a pereiras, pessegueiros etc e agora é altura de macieiras.

Não sou nenhum especialista em fruticultura, mas gosto de aprender com a prática vou observando, lendo, ouvindo conselhos e, acima de tudo, testando e foi ai que soube da necessidade de colocar outra macieira perto desta. Sei que nem tudo vai correr perfeito pode haver pragas, pode haver anos com pouca produção, pode até acontecer que alguma árvore não se adapte tão bem, mas isso faz parte e com cuidado e amor as plantas conseguimos ter bons resultados.

Uma coisa que me dá satisfação é imaginar este espaço daqui a alguns anos. Ver a macieira maior, com ramos fortes, folhas verdes e, quem sabe, cheia de maçãs e ver os meus filhos a colher as maças e outros frutos destas árvores e imagino também eu colhê-las diretamente da árvore, sabendo que acompanhei tudo desde o primeiro dia, desde o buraco aberto na terra até aos primeiros frutos.

Plantar árvores também é uma forma de deixar algo para o futuro. Mesmo que nem sempre sejamos nós a aproveitar tudo, alguém vai aproveitar. Pode ser família, amigos ou simplesmente quem estiver por perto. Isso dá um sentido diferente ao trabalho e muita satisfação.
