Hello again gardening friends! May began with an amazing trip to Vancouver, Canada, but I'm back in time to check in for the May Garden Journal fun. Speaking of gardens, after missing the opportunity when we passed through on our cruise last year, we did make the jump over to Victoria to see Butchart Gardens. That deserves a whole post itself, but my goodness were those gardens stunning...

And at least one more because I left a piece of my heart there...

While I am not much of a flower gardener, we do have the first "flowers" popping up, with the first harvest right behind. I noticed the pea flowers before I left were starting to push out the first of the snow peas. Having the first mini harvest ready is one way to temper the post-vacation blues.

The squash shouldn't be too far behind now, with the patty pan being the first to push out fruit. A few of these babies are looking lush!

The pumpkins, Candy Roasters and Zucchino Rampicantes are exploding, as well, but I'll save those for when we actually start to get some fruit. The Golden Zucchini also is showing the first fruits. I can never get enough of the baby fruits. The joy of plant parenting.🤣

The tomatoes have finally started hitting their stride, as well. So much so that @dksart did his usual thing and crafted some homemade supports as they'll soon need it to keep growing tall. I am definitely starting to crave fresh tomatoes. That is one thing I am ruined for buying from the grocery store.

We've had a few cooler days, but for the most part the weather is staying warm which means the cucumbers and watermelon are happier. We have some more cucumber seedlings to put out soon, since unlike @owasco mentioned in her recent post, we can't get enough cucumbers and homemade pickles! I just need to ensure I have some dill somewhere shady so we still have some by the time the cukes are ready to ferment.

Speaking of herbs, I just pulled the first basil and dill to put in my soup for dinner this evening. The oregano, mint and lemon balm have gone absolutely mad, as usual, so it's time to start remembering to pop out before every meal and clip some of the good stuff.

The fruit trees still seem to be doing well, but as I shared them last month, I'll save those for another time. Some of the plums are dropping again, which shouldn't be too surprising given our trees are still fairly immature. The figs are already starting to push out fruit, so hoping for at least some good homegrown sweet stuff this year!
May really is one of my favorite months in the garden. While things can still be unpredictable, the promise of what is to come is more evident than ever. The patience from early spring is finally paying off! Thanks to @riverflows and the @gardenhive crew for keeping this party going. I wish we could all share our abundance together, but I suppose sharing the enjoyment of the process, tips and tricks, and successes is a big part of the fun!

Between the pictures of the flowers and then of your plants that look great, I am impressed and happy, I hope to start seeing soon the harvest of some of them.

Thank you! It is fun to finally start seeing everything really grow quickly after trying to be patient as the weather has warmed up. :)
I really didn't think you would use AI, Katy. A bit shocked.
Just kidding! Had you going there, didn't I? But sheesh, that looks too perfect to be real, doesn't it? Just incredible!
I still remember when you first started this garden - every year it gets better I reckon! God I had so many cukes here it was ridiculous. Got to enjoy a cuke, lime and mango and mint smoothie most days of summer haha!
Right? And the pictures don't hardly do it justice. We have some beautiful gardens here close to home, but this was another level. I haven't even looked at how many flower pictures I snapped yet...
That smoothie sounds delightful! I am hoping for lots and lots of cukes, but if not I'll take a squash. ;) It really is fun to see year to year how things grow, and see how much we've expanded from our first few little beds. If only work didn't get it the way, I'd tackle even more!
Oh you know, I haven't been working for months, and the garden is really beginning to be even more amazing than it was. It takes time every day, even if it's ten minutes. I mean, we do have a LOT Of garden!
Nice seeing you Katie, those gardens look absolutely stunning😍
Growing your own veggies and herbs still is the most satisfying gardening of all.
Enjoy the warmer weather, and seeing the fruits of your labour!
Hello my friend! I hope all is as well as can be in your world. I know you all are going into the cooler weather, but that brings some different yummy produce.
I see more and more flowers popping up on the tomato plants and truly can't wait until that first bite of homegrown goodness! The simple joys in life can't be beat.
I remember the first time I tasted a home-grown tomato, it was delicious. Same with other veggies!
We're enjoying the cooler weather, although today suddenly was like summertime!
Happy gardening <3
Hello @plantstoplanks Your garden is really fascinating! Gardening has been my form of therapy since I quit my job to focus on my healing from postpartum anxiety. It has been giving me a comforting and soothing feeling seeing my plants blooming and bearing fruits. Harvesting the first fruits is my favorite part, next is serving them on the table and eating them is the best part. I found solace in my garden and it took a significant part in my healing process. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden. It feels so good to have a glance of your lush plants. 💚 Happy planting!
Oh that's so lovely to hear how healing gardening has been for you. It truly does wonders for our health on so many levels. Any time I'm feeling a bit down, I'm grateful to be able to go out and spend some time among the plants. Plus the satisfaction of growing something from a seed to harvesting the fruit to enjoy on your table is such a wonder, no matter how many times you do it!
Hello there, long time no see 🤗💚
I'm kind of envious of you for those beauties, but in a good way and I'm glad you already have them. My dad has just sowed the seeds as the climate is different here, it's colder and not yet time to have anything in the garden, other than seedlings.
It was so nice to see your post. Take care my dear friend!
Hey @erikah! So nice to see you pop by. I always love getting to check out what's growing in your climate, since it is just a little bit different than here. We're pretty lucky with being able to put things out pretty early, and I try not to take that for granted even when the heat of the summer tests the limit of some of our plants! 😂
How are things looking for this year? I hope you get some good weather to get some nice crops in the ground!
Next week I'm going to be at my dad's (it's his garden as I live in the city) and I'm planning to do a gardening post, to show you where the garden is at, but it's nowhere near your Eden garden 😄 I'll make sure to tag you 😉
OMG, what kind of paradise is that? If the sky looks like that, there I go San Pedro hahaha it's an incredible beauty, I would love to visit it 😍
So much beauty on this planet of ours, isn't there? I have so many places I'd love to go and visit!
