After buying a handful of waterleaf last month for 500 naira, only to realize it wasn’t enough for cooking, I decided to visit the little waterleaf garden on my veranda that weekend.
I applied some manure, watered it every evening, and ensured I removed weeds around it. With consistent care, in just a few weeks, the garden started blooming again.
The ones by my wall grew so green and fresh that I couldn't help but feel happy watching them come alive again. In fact, I even sold some to a neighbor the following day! Truly, having a garden around the house is a great relief, it saves you from the stress and frustration of price inflation in the market these days.
To protect my garden from fowls, I used a net, and now I’m planning to introduce pumpkin to the garden soon.
Gardening has been a rewarding experience for me. It has taught me patience, responsibility, and the importance of consistency. Watching the plants grow daily gives me a sense of fulfillment. It also reminds me that nature rewards effort. If I can expand my little garden, I might soon have enough vegetables to share with more people and even reduce my dependence on the market.

Después de comprar un puñado de hojas de agua el mes pasado por 500 nairas, sólo para darme cuenta de que no era suficiente para cocinar, ese fin de semana decidí visitar el pequeño huerto de hojas de agua de mi porche.
Le eché abono, lo regué todas las tardes y me aseguré de quitar las malas hierbas. Con un cuidado constante, en pocas semanas el huerto volvió a florecer.
Las que estaban junto a mi pared crecieron tan verdes y frescas que no pude evitar sentirme feliz al verlas revivir. De hecho, ¡incluso vendí algunas a un vecino al día siguiente! De verdad, tener un huerto en casa es un gran alivio, te ahorra el estrés y la frustración de la inflación de los precios en el mercado hoy en día.
Para proteger mi huerto de las aves de corral, utilicé una red, y ahora estoy planeando introducir pronto calabazas en el huerto.
La jardinería ha sido una experiencia gratificante para mí. Me ha enseñado paciencia, responsabilidad y la importancia de la constancia. Ver crecer las plantas cada día me llena de satisfacción. También me recuerda que la naturaleza recompensa el esfuerzo. Si consigo ampliar mi pequeño huerto, puede que pronto tenga suficientes verduras para compartirlas con más gente e incluso reducir mi dependencia del mercado.
