I don't think it's bizzare. I think we gardeners speak a universal language. Even if we don't know a plant, if we're interested, we research it. At least I've come across a lot of plants here in the community and researched many.
Luckily, it's not too hot for us yet, but we'll want winter soon :)

And to be fair, these Aussie plants would do great in your climate too! I mean, if Portugal has all the gum trees, and we have some pretty hardy plants up in snow country here...
I should definitely research the climate of Portugal.
But I'm from Serbia :) Nikola Jokić, Novak Djokovic and other crazy things :)
Probably many plants could grow here, winter is a problem with severe frosts, but since you also have snow
