Sometimes life just donโt go the way you plan it out to be and.. you just have to roll with the punches.
For the last couple of months, we have sunflower thriving in our home. They really adorn our fully concrete neighborhood. We donโt live in village that has a lot of plot to plant something so we just maximize whatever is available in our surrounding.
We werenโt even sure these sunflowers could thrive but since our home faces east and gets full sun, the sunflower is happy existing in our home. As you might have seen before, I even got some amazing shots of these sunflower.
Prior this, I love sunflower seeds. Itโs one my childhood snacks that I had fond memories of. The thing is, I thought there were harvested through some weird ways but until I found out, apparently itโs really from the sunflower petals. Itโs almost like the flower itself withers but actually is carrying loads of sunflower seeds which is the source of a great snacks.
We didnโt really care much about it until the other day, I tried plucking and found out, that was how sunflower seed was harvested. So, this morning I got some bowl and tried to harvest it.

I carefully plucked it out and until I get a good amount because I want to use the rest of the seeds for my balcony. I want more of these in my home not only because the extra snacks but also it would attack the butterfly and other bugs. These are great for my other photography hobby haha.

Anyhow, as you see, I got that much and I learned how to roast them. First, you have to boil the sunflower in salted water. Then, after around 10 minutes, dry them, and roast it about 10 minutes inside a pre-heated oven.

So, I was also in the middle of helping people sign up to hive. I had to explain things and I forgot to ask my mom to check the sunflower.
I went upstairs and somehow I was seated for more than 10 minutes until I smelled something burned. I realized that I was roasting sunflower. I rushed downstairs only to find my sunflower was completely roasted and burnt. Itโs not edible and while I feel extremely sad, I know that we still have a few more sunflower thatโs thriving and with some patience, I can have a proper sunflower seeds.

The thing is, I know I can just buy them off the shelves. It isnโt even that expensive but eating from something weโve grown and harvested, have different quality and value to it. This is what really motivates me to grow my own stuff even if we only have some micro plot and the balcony.

We agree! Excited about your growing journey.
Unfortunately, maybe it's gonna be a while before I can even taste sunflower seeds hehe
Eating from something you've grown yourself indeed has it's own vibe.
I didn't know sunflower seeds were from the petals.
Where did you first think it comes out? I also wondered at first and didn't know that you have to wait until it withers to produce the seeds
I didn't even know it used seeds.
Sunflower's aren't that common in my country.
I always thought you planted it with it's stalk or something...

It's great that you can grow your own sunflowers, especially since you eat them, as you say, every harvest tastes much better than buying in the store
I'm so sorry you forgot the seeds in the oven and they got ruined
Have a beautiful day dear friend @macchiata
hahahaha yeah, it's fine. I think I can get sunflower seeds in a few months when the weather is fine again
Hello lady @macchiata good day
What a shame what happened, I'm very sorry that the seeds burned, although it happened because you were doing a good cause, helping people join #hive
Better luck next time
I know right? it's a shame that happened but I hope I can eat more seeds in the next batch of sunflower. Thanks for checking out :)
Sometimes, there are things that donโt go as planned. I also burned some foods that I cooked, especially when Iโm cooking rice. ๐ฅฒ๐ญ๐คฃ
hahaha how did you burn the rice?
I was using my cellphone and forgot about it ๐ญ
Itโs all part of the learning process! Still, growing your own sunflowers is such a win. Canโt wait for your next batch of seeds! ๐ป๐
hehehe I hope it won't be burnt like this one ๐คฃ
You always learn so this is one more learning experience
Cant you eat them dried as well?
If nothing maybe birds got some food
I can eat them without roasting but they taste different. I love salty crunch and that's the result of boiling it in salt water and roasting it.
Fair enough
Maybe this summer roasting will option as well if there is sunflowers in our garden
It is so sad that your sunflower seed burned. I know the happiness when we harvest and eat what we growing. So, donโt worry about it anymore. Don't be sad. Next time, you should be more careful.
Yep! next time I just need to ask for help
I agree, buying them is no substitute for growing them...
Yep, like it's not about the money or cost but it's the quality and its own value.
1000% agreed!
