The Colours of Summer

(edited)

I had the pleasure of visiting a sunflower farm last year on the outskirts of town, where they had extensive fields of sunflowers in full bloom.

They also had many other types of flowers such as dahlias, and I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the blooms. I used the microscope features of my camera to zoom closer (while maintaining my distance from the plant) and check out the incredible details, which because of their geometry and colour, never cease to amaze me.

My knowledge of flowers is very low, but I'm always in awe of the complexity in their petals. All of this came from a seed, I tell myself. The instructions for this incredible specimen were packed tightly in a small container the size of a thumbnail or smaller.

I really didn't know which way to point the camera. I could have spent a few hours in a single plant, but the fields were extensive, so I moved as quickly as possible. As you can imagine, my photo-shooting was wild but along the way, I captured a few striking shots.

My senses were buzzing with all the colour and eye-catching petaled structures that left me amazed and thrilled. I realized that I usually don't pay close attention to flowers. But I was holding a camera and thinking about the different angles and shapes and so on, so even though my steps were quick, I paid close attention to the aesthetic details.

Field after field. My head swiveled. My eyes looked in all directions. My fingers clicked. What a gargantuan effort, I thought looking across the sea of flowers.

There simply wasn't enough time to properly enjoy them. I had never been to this farm, so I didn't know what to expect. But as soon as we all got hauled on a trailer with a tractor, and a beautiful lady sang old songs with a small guitar while we crossed the farm grounds, I knew it was going to be a special place.

It's not save to travel in the Philippines, because it's easy to end up in prison without having committed any crime. This is because corruption in the country remains widespread and here is its history: [Philippine history of tyranny] Philippine society and revolution 4/86
