Hello, dear Hive community! It is a pleasure to greet you all once again and share with you something about one of my great passions: plants. The plant world always has something wonderful to teach us. This time, I want to show you and tell you about a medicinal plant that grows with strength and vitality in one part of my yard: sábila, or aloe vera.

Beyond its inherent properties, this plant holds a very deep meaning for me. The first small aloe vera plant was planted years ago by my father—who is no longer with us. Caring for it today is a way to keep his memory alive, and seeing how it has grown over time into a lush, healthy colony fills me with both pride and nostalgia. Over the years, this little colony of aloe vera has become an invaluable resource, not just for my own household but for many of my neighbors as well. On more than one occasion, its fleshy leaves—or pencas, as I call them—have served as an effective home remedy for soothing minor burns, treating skin conditions, and combating infections or minor ailments. The gel (or "crystal") of the aloe vera plant has moisturizing, healing, and cooling properties. It helps strengthen hair and promote its growth, while also eliminating dandruff. It serves as an excellent tonic for clearing away impurities, calming acne, and keeping the skin smooth. For me, talking about aloe vera isn't a matter of theory; it’s based on daily experience and results I’ve witnessed firsthand. I’ve used it for hair care many times, applying the fresh gel to my scalp; it has helped control dandruff and even played a significant role in my recovery from an episode of alopecia, encouraging my hair to grow back strong. It also saved my skin by completely clearing up dark spots on my face that had been caused by taking contraceptive pills. Experiencing these benefits personally has convinced me that this plant is a true miracle of nature. In our current reality in Cuba, given the shortage of conventional medicines, the use of natural and traditional medicine has become a vital alternative—a true source of relief in our day-to-day lives. Aloe vera holds a special place in this; having it at home is, quite literally, like having a small "green pharmacy" right there with you. Today, thanks to my father’s wise decision, I am able to have this miraculous plant at home for the use of my family and my neighbors. His legacy lives on in every green leaf throughout this neighborhood.
