This is our way of preparing the soil before planting, and it’s a very important part of farming.

My vlog is all about preparing the soil before we start planting and it’s really one of the most important parts of farming. If the soil is not ready, the plants will not grow well, so we have to make sure everything is done properly. First, we loosen the soil, either by plowing with a tractor or by using a cow and a Daro to save on costs. Loosening the soil helps the roots of the plants grow deeper and spread more easily which makes the crops healthier.

The soil needs to be plowed first before adding fertilizer or animal manure.

This is what happens after the first plowing the grass and weeds still appear, so the land needs to be plowed again before planting.

The cow is very important to us because it helps a lot in farming.

In my place, the way we make the soil fertile before planting is really simple. We usually add organic matter like dried leaves, whatever leaves are available on the ground and mostly animal manure to improve the soil. This helps the ground become soft and rich so the plants can grow
better. We also use lime, which we spread on the soil to make it healthy. This is important especially if the land has been planted many times, because the soil can become weak. Lime helps balance the soil and makes it better for the plants to grow strong.

This is the distance we leave between the plants so they can produce more fruit.

As soon as the rainy season begins, that’s the time for us to start planting, once the soil is ready, just like what my siblings did when they planted squash. Even if it is hot, as long as it rains before planting, the soil under will still be wet.

If my siblings cannot manage the work we usually hire people to help them, especially when things need to be done quickly since the farmland is wide. Most of the time we pay workers on a daily basis so the work can be finished on time. This is very common in the farm.
