My Father is a Gardener

IMG_9013.JPG

If people say my garden is so beautiful with all its hydroponics and plants, it's none other than the hand of a father who dedicated his life to plants. Until he finally retired from his civil service position, he continued to live with his garden and plants.

Flashback to five years ago, before he retired, my father is a civil servant in the agriculture and plantation sector. When I was 10 years old, my father an expert in cacao, and we went through difficult times when my father and i were separate by a great distance. You know Sulawesi? If you fly direct, it takes 4-5 hours, even though we're in the same country.

However, that what makes me so proud of him. He is someone who truly care about cacao plants, and even after retirement, he was a trusted figure among the farmers he mentored. His greatest expertise was cacao plant diseases, even quickly treating cacao trees. The most unfortunate thing is that my father doesn't have a cacao plantation here, as that crop and cacao farming are very difficult to sustain in this area.

Look at all this hydroponic system in our yard; it's all his legacy. I'm proud of nothing more than the knowledge of farming, planting, and caring for plants he taught me. Truly, he taught me everything, from the smallest details to the most urgent one, and i am the only child work in this field.

Now we're focusing on hydroponics and our coffee plantation in our hometown. That's our most important priority, although I can't show you our coffee plantation right now because it's still being tended by farmers we trust for reforestation. The coffee trees in our plantation are quite old and need to be replanted. My father even helped me select the best seeds to improve their quality.

For that reason, I'm proud of my father for his expertise in agriculture and plantations. The life of a father who was originally a civil servant and helped farmers in the village inspires me to this day.

Your father’s dedication to plants and his lifelong passion for agriculture shine through your words. His legacy continues to grow not just trough your garden and hydroponics, but also through the values and knowledge he passed on to you.

I hope you can also share a story about how you started your hydroponics garden. It’s one of the gardening methods I really want to try soon, eve if it’s just for lettuce to start with. 🌿

There are so many questions like that, and I'm really curious about why I started hydroponics. I think I'll consider it.

That is indeed a very beautiful garden, thank you for sharing your story! Gardening and the love for plants is indeed one of the greatest gifts that parents can bestow on us, and it seems like you're honoring your father a lot by following in his footsteps. Is he open to new ideas? Was the hydroponic plantation an idea that you brought up?

Since I was 21, my dad has become like my friend, we share ideas and argue almost every day. Even to take this photo, we argued! LOL

How beautiful it is when learning is passed down from generation to generation, and how positive your father's knowledge is.

He sounds like a wise and hardworking man who loves plants very much. It’s nice that you learned so much from him and now continue his work. You must be very proud to have a father like him.
