Harvesting fresh oregano that nature offers us, while showing some of the plants that grow there and enjoying the landscape

Happy Friday to all my Hive friends! As always, I'm grateful for the opportunity to share a new post here in the #hivegarden community, which is one of my favorites. Here, I share some of my favorite activities, including gardening and being in frequent contact with nature. These photos, which I took this morning while doing my wife a favor, are a perfect example. I found some oregano to send to her cousin who lives abroad. Since a friend of mine is traveling in search of a better future, he asked us to please get some for him to use in preparing his meals in Uruguay, where he is currently located.

Oregano is an aromatic herb that we use here in cooking, but it's difficult to grow at home, so it's best to find it growing wild in the nearby hills. I went to the one behind my grandmother's property, hoping that the recent rains had helped its leaves grow. However, I was met with a mixed surprise: while some trees had leaves, others were completely dry.

So, seeing the plants that were fuller, I started picking them by hand and putting them in a plastic bag to avoid damaging the plants, hoping to return and wait for a new harvest.

After finishing my work and collecting as much as possible, I took some photos of the native vegetation, such as this mountain melon, which still has a lot of growing to do, as well as other plants whose names I don't know. This last one, in particular, is widely used, especially around Christmas time, for making our small, natural Christmas trees, like the ones I'm showing you in the photos.

I also took some pictures of the nearby hills, which I hope to visit soon. There are some great hiking activities happening in the municipality, so I'll try to get there to share more and better moments with the nature of our beautiful Margarita Island. All this information will be available here in the #hivegarden community.

It's amazing how nature continues to provide what we need. I also love herbs like oregano because they add so much flavor to our meals and best for healing when I’m not feeling well. Wishing your friend all the best abroad, and I hope he enjoys the fresh oregano from home.
