Our Small Community Garden: A Simple Way We Work Together and Grow Fresh Food for Our Family

In our small community, we decided to start a vegetable garden. It is not a big garden, but it is very helpful for all of us. The space is simple, and we planted vegetables that we usually cook at home. For me, this garden is important because it shows how our small community can work together.

In our garden, we planted different kinds of vegetables. We have bottle gourds and sponge gourds that climb on the bamboo trellis. We also planted cucumbers, squash, and ampalaya. These plants need space to crawl and grow, so we prepared simple supports using bamboo. Every time I pass by the garden, I check if the vines are growing well and if there are already small fruits forming.

Aside from the climbing vegetables, we also planted leafy vegetables that grow fast and are easy to harvest. We have alugbati, kangkong, pechay, and kamote tops. These vegetables are very useful because we can harvest them anytime when we need something to cook. Sometimes if someone in the community needs vegetables, they can just pick a few leaves from the garden.

We also planted different kinds of herbs. Even though they are small plants, they are useful in cooking and sometimes for simple home remedies. Having these herbs in the garden makes it more practical for everyday use.

What I really appreciate about our community vegetable garden is the cooperation among the people here. We may be a small community, but we try to help each other in simple ways. Some people water the plants, some help clean the area, and others help plant new vegetables.

For me, the garden is not just about growing vegetables. It is also a way for us to show that even in simple activities, we can work together. Our community may be small, but through this garden we show unity and support for one another.
